I am building a home system using the E145 as a midbass. Ideally, I would like to cross it at 500Hz. I have read that most people cross it lower, such as 300-350Hz. However, I think I read that in the Everest they crossed at 700Hz?

Go right ahead they will work fine there, the Urei 801C coaxials use the E-145 and crossover around 800hz or higher.
