Thought that it's a good time to get the 4688's out of storage and let them play a little.

They are loaded with the original 2240H woofers and are being driven by a crown M600 ( industrial version ) so it's about 2000 watts into 2 ohms.

The signal is filtered with a JBL/UREI 5235 with 80hz/18db cards and there are NO boost or High pass filters involved.

When used with the 4355 ( mod ) clones the additional LF was noticeable on the very deep hip-hop / dance synthesized material but not so on standard rock.

BUT the volume of air displaced on billy idol's white wedding was enough to get noticed across the street and make breathing difficult.

Me thinks my college renters will be doing community service in a few weeks after this party is over.

"Funny" that something can make 4355-sized cabinets look small...

... and that 435x posts/pics tend to reduce what can be said to

Reminds me of Zilch's garage...!

Yeah..some time ago I sold one of them to zilch so only 3 are left.

The goal is to find (6) 2242H and fire up one of the 36KW crown/techron monoblocks that I converted to single phase 240V into 3 of these into a single room. The converted MRI amp should do about 12K into 1.333 ohm.

Have a big pile of mil surplus 8ga wire too....

*cheers*

and BTW I will be making clones of these cabs in the summer of 2011 that are sectional for the DIY crowd.

Soooo you have a 7700 series working on 1 Ø?!? Will it run at full power? Will you mod one for me? Shoot, I won't be able to sleep tonight!

That is the 8207 - the industrial ( specific to picker ) variant of the single phase M600/7560 crown amplifier sans meter cutout.

The 7700 series used a monolithic 3 phase transformer that cannot be run on single phase BUT BUT the later monster 36KW MRI amps use 3 individual transformers that CAN run on single phase.

Sometime later this year ( or next spring ) I will be installing one transformer with related PS components into a 36KW chassis and will install a DSP card...

woof

AND BTW - yes it's a 1620 with 3 cards. JBL amps too

I'm used to high power amps, the transmitter for the Radio station outputs 25KW.
When I read about 36KW amps for audio, the scene from Back to the Future comes to mind. Marty, powering up the big amp, guitar pick in hand and then he strikes the guitar strings and gets blown across the room! Be very careful!

The 36KW is when driving a 0.25 ohm load - we call that a short...or (32) 8 ohm speakers in parallel.

And with all 3 transformers installed.

Back in the early 90's I bought an EV30W speaker ( in cabinet ) from a old church system. That was the frame used in the movie but the cone is made of styrofoam and it's rated at 30 watts or something low.

But it looked SO cool.......
