Hi ya'll, JBL newbie here (I do own Altec Model 14's). I recently obtained some Primas that I plan on restoring. First the cabinets:

At first I thought about trying to strip off the black spray paint, but honestly the yellow is not that hot either. Anybody have ideas on how I should proceed? Prep, paint types, other tips?

Thanks,

Deaner

Hello deaner33

I have a pair of those in Charcoal. My grills are long gone though. You can remove the entire bafle board. It's hard to get out as it has a soft gasket material that sticks very well. Take the woofers out first and be patient pulling it as as it can crack. As far as the cabinet you might want to try something out internally first. It's some kind of thermoset foam/plasic so be careful what kind of solvents you get near them. Same with chemical strippers. Have fun! The look real good in Charcoal if you decide to change the color.

That's what concerned me. Probably will just clean them real well, then lightly sand (any danger there?) and repaint. Very worried about chemicals, so I'll leave them alone. Will probably look for a color as close as possible to original or colors these came in. Any paint brand recommendations?

BTW, how do yours sound? I've got foams on the way & refoaming doesn't look that difficult on these.
