Hey Alex,

You should use the PM's/email links, the roving Bot spiders and others can pick-up your email address and then you have a problem with spam an other possible issues !

Good Luck w/project

P.S. you may want to ask a MODERATOR to edit that for you."Unless it is a Disposable Address". You can give your email through PM's privately.

Hi .
i read this site before .
but not know :
crossover 604 - 8 H will be good for 604 E ? ? ?

can advise ?

The N1500A is suggested as being a good match at the jmarkwart site.

N1500A in the jmarkwart site for 16 oHm , as i think ....
will be compatible with 604E - 8 ohm ?

OK, I think I understand the question better now, and perhaps the source of some confusion.

Per this listing (if it is correct):

http://alteclansingunofficial.nlenet.net/Thiele-Small.html

the DC resistance measurement for the 604E driver is -supposed- to be around 7 ohms.

The 604-8H has a different compression driver phase plug, and a different horn,
so one might expect the crossover optimized for the 604-8H to be less optimum
for the 604E. I have neither the drivers nor the crossovers to validate this assumption
(I will accept 604-series donations though ;)).

Unless I'm still not understanding (quite possible), it appears that jmarkwart's
advice of the N1500A crossover is still appropriate, or you will need to experiment.

Hello
in this table DCR - 7 om .
BUT for which driver ? LF or HF ?

16 Ohm for which frequency ?
i can check resistance on the different frequensy . i have different gears for mesuremnet

7 ohms in the referenced T/S table is for the bass driver
(as are the rest of the values on that line)

The HF driver impedance will depend on the diaphragm installed, but
my understanding is that it has a 16 ohm rating in it's frequency operating
range (DC resistance can be much less).

There's at least one other thread here that is related (604E) and
many more Altec-experienced members that may want to jump in.

i confused , because tim eto time on eBay i find sale 604E with photo tester which
gave :
LF = >11,4 - 12,5 oHm
HF => 8,7 - 9,1 oHm

as example , my 604 E
HF - 6 ohm

Sorry for having to ask this, but did you zero your
meter first? ... often a requirement for accurate low
resistance measurements.

of cos ....make zero at first .

today take Digital tester .
for both drive unit have :
HF - 9,1 oHm
LF - 11,8 oHm

what you think ?

All I can say is the DC resistance LF measurement seems high compared to the
sparse information that I could find published on the 604E. Someone with more
Altec experience/knowledge or a known-good/stock unit in-hand to measure will
have to respond.

I built Jeff Markwart modified N1500A crossovers for 604Es and they're insane. The plans are readily available and easy to put together. You won't be disappointed.

I have a pair of Mastering Lab crossovers and they are like a steroid injection for 604s. However, they're not easy to come by and always very expensive.

Hi,
My 604E's (original, stock) read 11.8 bottom and 8ish top with my meter. I use a 16 ohm for top and bottom. Works very nice.

The stock crossover for the 604e (1500) should do the trick! I hear good things about the GPA and jmarkwart xo from other friends who also have 604e.

PS, personally think the 604e is the finest altec duplex :)
