I have been upgrading a pair of these very fine speakers, with success. The cabinet is 3.5 cu ft, and is on legs and properly bottom ported at the Fs of the woofer, 25Hz. It has a 12 db crossover, of unknown spec, but it seems to be close to the intended points of the more sophisticated Jantzen cross, 1500Hz and 3500Hz. This has made an amazing difference. I rewired them internally, one at a time, with silver sonic hook up wire, the buck a foot stuuff, 16 ga. The clarity and focus is dramatically increased, with a decrease in bass overhang.
Has anyone heard these Jantzen crossovers? They are available at Parts Express. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=260-896. I have almost a thousand dollars worth of parts, so I tried to buy just the schematic from Jantzen, refused. Here is a link to info. http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/JBL_L100.htm
Cheers.

298USD each??

Wake up and buy some 4312's or L100T''s and convert them to T3's. I seriously doubt anyone over 45, with the chronic damage we all suffer to our ears from chronic acoustic exposure can hear the difference between these installed in a pair of l100's or to a pair of something like an OEM L100T3's. :banghead:

600 for two x-overs....you can buy two pairs of L100T's for that. or L100's or L100A's or 4312's....

Ask one of the senior members who will build crossovers to build a new set for you. JBL knew what they were up t when they designed the speaker so long ago. What does Jantzen know that they didn't??? Hmmmm.... that at 300 each these x-overs are like 1200USD/lb!

go get their whole blog:

I can't comment about those Jantzen crossovers, I haven't heard them. They seem to be
very expensive.

Read this old thread (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?13105-New-crossover-design-for-L-100A) where I built completely redesigned crossovers for L100As that cost considerably less than those sold by Jantzen.

You can find a parts list and layout diagram here (http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?5766-Building-My-Own-L100-Cabinets&p=156952#post156952).

Get some low height tilt back risers, turn the speakers upside down (woofers up), pot down the mid a little, pot up the tweeters a bit more....voila :applaud:
