Enjoyed all the reading here. I'm new. I need help with something about Altec speakers and I've searced all over the web.

Ok I own a set of 508A towers. I could not find out if these were the old Good Lansing or not. I was told they sold for about $ 1000 each. They sound ok but are real power hungy and I am driving them with a Yamaha V-1000 amp that has good power.

I have the chance to get a old set, what I think is 1981 Model 8 series II's that have been re foamed and Cap'd.
I would not have the chance to listen to them until after I bought them. I love mids like Gutiar's, strings, horns and such. Could anybody whose knows these speakers give me some info, on if the Model 8 series II's are Good Altec's. And what about the 508A's I hardly find anything about them. Thanks for any and all help.

The 508 A's are the newer Altec Lansing product.
Unfortunately they are not reviewed to well on this site.
I've owned the 508's new since 1996 and have loved them since.
So much so that when I could get a pair of 511 towers I bought
them and have not had a single doubt about the sound.
The newer Altec products like a lot of power, I'm not familiar with
the model 8's but I'm sure someone would know about the sound
difference between the two.
