I am currently building a pair of SR4725a's from good quality 3/4" birch plywood.

I don't want to get into a political discussion about the emperor's new clothes, but just say that I am involved in some JBL DIY! How about you???

The JBL SR4732 was my personal favorite of that series of speakers!

Good luck! Couple things:

1: Consider charge-coupling the crossover. More work and bux but it's a very nice technique.

2: Consider treating the horn termination- you can use acoustic foam or felt, but something soft on the baffle surrounding the horn makes a big difference. Also consider lining the inset edges of the baffle. I found that I got nice results from covering the grille retention bars with thick felt.

These two things will make for a smoother, cleaner sound, particularly at home levels.

Thanks for the advice!

I am also very strongly considering changing my SR4735 into a 4726a by cutting out the baffle and changing it to accept a 2445/2380 horn. In my job here at the nightclub, I take our drag/variety show on the road, and more than anthing else it has turned into more singers than drag lypsyncs. The show hostess is a really strong singer and when using the 4735/4718 stack with Crown CTS2000's and a K2 for subs, the puny 2416/2371 driver/horn combo just didn't do the job for my ears. So, Lisa and I have talked about having a 2226/2445/2380 cabinet that would do the job.

Maybe someone would want to trade some of my parts for a pair of 2447/2381 like the SR4726a requires, or what about a pair of 2450's and their horns? Any input and advice is appreciated!!!

Hope all is well with everyone!
Scotty.

ps. I have also considered using the 2440's I have here but will need a "better" diaphragm to achieve more upper range for the lypsync music, or do I just add a 2404 and network? I also have 2482 and 2485's that I thought about loading with the Radian aluminum diaphragms, just to get them off of the shelves and working.

I'm pretty sure you know the traditional way is to use a bullit UHF tweeter with the phenolic diaphragm in the 2482. That diaphragm will last just about forever! The phenolic resin impregnated linen just does not fatigue crack. At some point, the Radian aluminum one will. Also, the stock 2482 can handle tremendous power. I have mine running on a Crown DC-300A Series II.
As usual, the only caution is about thumps, pops, clicks, and other transients. They can be very loud at high power levels!
I guess I'm saying I'd keep the 2482 as it is and add in a 2404 and network.
My 2 cents...
