Hello. I am new to these Forums. I have a question regarding JBL speakers.

I recently acquired a pair of JBL 4311 studio monitors. The drivers are original and are in fine shape acoustically but on removing the grills I found a sticky, resinous substance "bleeding" from the bottom of the woofers. It has run down the front surface of the speakers and on one, has gotten on to the grill cloth. I am wondering if this problem is common on vintage loudspeakers, and is there a solvent can I use to clean it without damage to the speakers or cloth? Thank you for any help that you can give. Jim

That's fairly normal. Do a search here on "goop" and be aware that removing it from
the cabinet and/or "foilcal" can take the underlying paint with it. You can pull the woofer,
rotate it 180º, and put it back. 30 years from now, it will have run down the other way :)
