I have a pair of 9844 monitors that are pretty beat up. I plan on building new enclosures soon that will be more robust and will orient the drivers in vertical alignment, like the Malibu. I am planning on keeping the internal volume of the new enclosures very close to that of the 9844's, but I would like to put an internal partition in the enclosures to give each 12" woofer its own sub-enclosure. I am doing this because the partition will add to the rigidity of the enclosure, and I remember reading somewhere that this should result in better woofer performance. Can any of you tell me why this is so (the better bass performance part)? Also, how do I go about sizing the new ports? The port in the stock 9844 enclosure is 2" x 10", so do I keep these same dimensions and just have one port for each sub-enclosure, or am I headed down the wrong road?
Thanks in advance if you take the time to answer, obviously I am a bit challenged it the technical aspects of speaker building.
