SEAWOLF97

well this is a different thread....yes, it belongs in OFF TOPIC, but only gets a limited viewing there,so...

This is mainly directed at those with odd/different screen/user names....what is the significance/meaning of your name ??

for many like Hjames....well, yes, its your name
for BMWCCA its his car club
for Loach71 its the aircraft and year he flew it

but for others, its a mystery ..... care to share the story/meanings ????

for me...Seawolf came from the highly decorated attack helo squadron I served with in the Navy ...1997 was the year I applied for my first email acct...it was also a meaningful year to us sailors that loved Hong Kong ...as in "I cant believe that they are really gonna give HK back in '97"

Q: ?? so whats your story ?????

come on...this could be a fun thread :bouncy:

There is a specific interest in horns, mainly bass horns (DIY) which you can realize in various threads here.
(Besides, there is a keen interest in electrostatic headphone soundreproduction. But ... wrong forum.)
And there is a pub  in my village called "Hörninger".
Well, I choose the variant with "oe" instead of "Ö". :)

opimax was opusmax 1st back in the 80s. I left AOL and came back. They said someone else was opusmax so I chnged to opimax. Opus for the penguin in Bloom County and Max for the Nissan Maxima I had at the time. A neighbor said opi was the plural of opus so opimax the name has been for a long time.

At the time Opus was a favorite of my ex-wife and myself, one of the few things we actually had in common, lol!

Zero mystery to mine, but just in case it is the appellation for a Ducati motorcycle owner or enthusiast who was in this case born in 1947. That would be in the first half of the previous century in the former millennium, and do I ever feel old some days.

The Ducati has been laid up wrecked for two or three years, a low priority at this point. I should have used Volkswagen. Or Bridgestone, my bicycle. Couldn't use Stax on a speaker site.

Most other sites I am clarkmc2.

Titanium Dome
06-10-2010, 11:36 AM
Many assume that Titanium Dome has to do with a love of Ti dome tweeters. Some morons have even used that assumption to categorize, criticize, and castigate me as a tin-eared lover of harsh, sharp, ringing HF drivers, as opposed to whatever crap they're trying to push. (Yes, a bit feisty today...)

Nonetheless, the real reason is found in my occasionally posted byline: Inverted Dome Metalhead. It's not about tweeters at all but my admiration for inverted domes like the 904Ti, 906Ti, and 908Ti. These are the drivers that brought me back to JBL with passion. Later, I learned to appreciate the 093Ti and 095Ti embossed domes, too. Yes there are Ti tweeters that I like, but that's not the reason for the moniker.

Somehow Inverted Titanium Dome or Titanium Inverted Dome didn't roll off the tongue easily (too many syllables) and neither lent itself to easy compression: T-I-Dome? IT-Dome? ITD? Sounds like a government agency or a venereal disease. (Is there a difference? Why, yes, of course there is.)

Titanium Dome gives Ti-Dome, T Dome, TD, etc. which many find useful.

"And now you know the rest of the story." (Props to Paul Harvey)

I started my business at 18 as SMK Sound Productions, but while buying yellow page advertizing, the rep decided that Smksoundpro was more "hip" to the bridal (or bridle) market segment. She started posting all of my subsequent ads under SMKSOUNDPRO, which was fine.

if I had to do it all over again, I would probably just be known as: "Sourdough Scotty" the name I was called in my family for being born in Alaska.

Who know there was Horsey People in Alaska!
My brother's first wife was part of the bridle stuff - TROT in the DC area (Trail Riders of Tomorrow)
She did all that dressage stuff and got my younger sister into it as well. Sis had a quarter horse while she was growing up ...

I was older and due to bad influences and friends, got into motorcycles when I was growing up - a Honda CL-350 that was rapidly replaced by a '70 Triumph T100C (500cc), a '65 Norton Featherbed (650cc), and replaced that with a '73 Tr7RV (Triumph Trophy 750) ... then I got out of that for about 25 years or so ...

Growing up I was ashamed of my name being Japanese so it was a secret for many years. In the 50's & 60's Japan was a dirty word.
Now it is a badge of pride; I wish it was my first name but, it's hard to change when everyone has known me as Keith for a half century plus.

Of more interest is my avatar-- traditional weaponry re-invented high tech is a passion of mine. Audio, while it was my first love became my job. JBL started my love affair with sound, and if it weren't for JBL that love affair would have prabably faded...like a woman you sadly drift apart from.

06-12-2010, 10:53 PM
As I recall, I used the term "brutal" to describe the power of my new truck at the time (2004.5 RAM) and it then stuck as the truck nickname, then as a cb handle, then I started using it on one of my first forums for other diesel head nutjobs like me. Since I have no reason to hide, I use the same name (or variant when taken) on nearly every personal forum.

I also tend to be brutally honest - to a fault - by those that know me well, so it all fit.

"Today, philology is no longer concerned with literary interpretation. Rather, it is concerned with deciphering texts and with understanding language through texts — not understanding literary texts through language. A philologist may work with little understood languages that are no longer spoken, for example when a textual record is all that is known of the language."

It's actually Anne Francis (not Baxter) - http://www.annefrancis.net/. a real cool LADY!

Yes, founders of Krell, Inc. took their company name from the film. I tried to get them interested in a speaker design I had which would also relate to images from the film but no go :(. Another great idea of mine* that's gone nowhere :banghead: :( :( :(!!!

MGM hit the ball out of the park with this ground breaking film. For the first time (IMO) enough money was spent, an intelligent story was crafted, and literate science fiction was brought to the big screen for one of the earliest times ever. Hollywood still struggles to this day to do the same. Efforts to remake this classic have been underway for some time. I have a great remake in mind, but getting it to the right directors hands has been futile :dont-know:.

Walter Murch and the Art of Editing Film (http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=Ondaatje&y=0&tn=conversations&x=0),

Murch talks about his film and/or sound editing on such pictures as The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Apocalypse Redux, American Graffiti, THX 1138, and The English Patient, through which he and Ondaatje met. The “John” in the passage below refers to John Milius, who wrote the original Apocalypse Now screenplay.
Originally George Lucas was going to direct [Apocalypse Now], so it was a project that George and John developed for Zoetrope. That was back in 1969. Then when Warner Bros. cancelled the financing for Zoetrope, the project was abandoned for a while. After the success of American Graffiti in 1973, George wanted to revive it, but it was still too hot a topic, the war was still on, and nobody wanted to finance something like that. So George considered his options: What did he really want to say in Apocalypse Now? The message boiled down to the ability of a small group of people to defeat a gigantic power simply by the force of their convictions. And he decided, All right, if it’s politically too hot as a contemporary subject, I’ll put the essence of the story in outer space and make it happen in a galaxy long ago and far away. The rebel group were the North Vietnamese, and the Empire was the United States. And if you have the force, no matter how small you are, you can defeat the overwhelmingly big power. Star Wars is George’s transubstantiated version of Apocalypse Now."
– The Conversations, p.70

Pretty self explanatory.....liked JBL's from the very first L112's I ever heard (not easy to hear or find in New England in the early 80's mind you) and just seemed to develop a nutty obsession with finding and hearing (and buying) ever better models.

I did not give it much thought at the time obviously, must have probably just seen the Simpsons episode where Barney Gumble is impersonating Crusty the Clown at Camp Crusty (the real Crusty had other more important matters to attend to). Why cant you pump your own gas?

It's come up for vote a few times, but never passes. The only exception to the law is for motorcyclists. Self service began in California in 1947. Oregon and New Jersey are the only two holdouts remaining.

BTW - I've been called Uncle Paul since my first niece was born when I was 11 months old.

For some reason the "Uncle" part puts some people off on forums, so I go by Gaspode elsewhere. Gaspode is a character out of Terry Pratchett's Diskworld series. Gaspode is a talking dog who uses subliminal suggestion to get what he wants ("woof, woof, faun, faun, give the little doggie a bone"). Ah yes, but then using an avatar designed by another forum member

Gaspode is a talking dog who uses subliminal suggestion to get what he wants .

reminds me of the classic Don Johnson movie....A Boy and his Dog

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072730/

A post-apocalyptic tale based on a novella by Harlan Ellison. A boy communicates telepathically with his dog as they scavenge for food and sex, and they stumble into an underground society where the old society is preserved.
Don Johnson plays a young man in a post nuclear war world who has an interesting friend, a telepathic dog. The dog gives him an advantage in dealing with the barbaric world he lives in.

Since I have no reason to hide, I use the same name (or variant when taken) on nearly every personal forum.

I do too....and it just benefited me last week...put an item on the PDX CL....got a reply from a woman in W.Virginia who wanted it....she insisted on COD since she didnt know me...I declined the sale , not wanting to go through the COD hoops...did tell her to check my eBay FB , since I use the same acct name as email name....she was impressed and sent a MO right away.

BJL are my real initials.
At most other websites I use a fake name, two exceptions being here
and over at the LBJ heritage site

Currently the motorcycles, but I did have a TR6 and a TR250 [these are cars made in the 60's and 70's]. Bought my first new Triumph motorcycle in 1972, now have 2 2001's.

Looking for a '71 T150 with lots of spares/extras??? I've had it since ~'74 and it just sits non-op for the last several years.
