I've restored a pair of studio monitors with pains-taking effort. I used a new pair of foam rings on the tweeters as part of that process. The functional purpose of the rings is limited but the restoration is complete and I'm glad I did this.

Cost? ...about 10 bucks.... so there is no good reason you should not do this, I suppose.

Thanks to all. I'm ready to install the new rings, but was curious as to their function.
