Hi All. One of my L100T woofers is buzzing and keeps getting louder. I have recently put a new surround on it, and checked the spider, everything looks fine. Would Reconing this help, and who is reputable to do it, what could I expect to pay?

I also have another 2214 that I blew, it ripped right off the spider, probably just old. what is the likelyhood this can be repaired?

Thanks,

grumpy

likely $200+ (each), installed + shipping, etc...

Assuming no other damage, a recone should resolve both woofer problems.

Thanks Grumpy. I have been doing alot of research on my own since posting this. I came across this company, the prices are um, unbelieveable. Anyone have any experience/opinions? They are showing $85.00 for reconing..parts & labor, says they are JBL certified.

make sure that in addition to JBL-certification, that actual JBL recone kits are used
(use of non-JBL aftermarket parts may have been the $85 quote). Cheers.

NOS recone kits come up on Ebay periodically, and usually sell for about $85 including shipping, though you'll probably need to spend another $15ea for new foam. Used 2214's usually sell for about $99 + shipping, half the time already refoamed. I think one of these options might be the least expensive, although it does mean junking a good frame...

Makes that pair i picked up Tuesday sound like a steal! (70% of that pair price.) Complete L100T components parted from a console, one 035TIA had a loose terminal, but one HP027TI thrown in. Fresh foam, but stored face down on the foam.:crying: Might take a while for the spider to come back from the "set" it's taken, but I have time to wait...

did you use shims when you recentered the woofer? the buzzing you mention could be caused by a number of different things. reconing will solve almost all of them but it could be something as simple as re-refoaming but using shims to insure the voice coil remains centered.

(ps. don't use aftermarket parts)

Hi. I didnt do these ones, I bought them from a friend,he taught me how to re-foam and he uses the shims. Can't hear anything when you press the cone in, no scratching. To be completely honest I am a bad JBL owner, I have popped these things quite a few times. It's my biggest complaint about the speaker. Yeah, I gotta be doin the house rocking thing. But I am gaining alot of respect for them at the same time too because I am learning just how articulate the woofers are. There is more to these than just a big magnet.

Like alot of relationships, you get in expecting one thing, and find it's a little different, but still good, you know? These are less like a one night stand, and more like first love.

I am leaning toward reconing all four of the 2214's I have. I've seen the video's on youtube and it looks only slightly more difficult that refoaming if the kit come's pre-assembled. Now, if only I could find 4 kits, lol.

4343, I like the avatar, and spend alot of time listening to that album!

if he used shims for refoaming, then other possible causes can be in adhesive bonds, worn and stretched spider, vc windings, etc. Reconing will take care of any and all of these issues because all the moving parts will be replaced. Yes, genuine JBL parts come in a one piece assembly and are fairly simple to install. Contact me directly and I will offer further suggestions.
