What is a good amp, especially Yamaha, to use with these speakers?

I have a pair of JBL L166s , Yamaha C-4, Yamaha M-2, Yamaha T-70, and a Nak 481Z cassette deck at home until I get a bigger place.

I got the JBL P30s for my office. The spec sheet states that the power range is 10-80 watts. The C-4, M-2, and the L 166s are my kind of power until I win the lottery and get a pair of JBL 4435s and a serious Yamaha BX-1.

I want to run the C-4, T 70 and Nak with a solid Medium power amp such as a Yamaha M-4 which I just missed on eBay. I've bid on a Yamaha M 35 2/4 40Wx40W and a Yamaha MX 55 2/4 70Wx70W. I know I want an M-4 120 x 120 but I may have to get an interim solution until I can pay up for a M-4.

Am I asking for trouble to run the M-2, C-4 with these JBL P30s? I'm disciplined with the M-2, although my son blew out a pair of L100s once before the cops arrived while his step-mother and I were away.

I'm so old-school-moss-backed of a Luddite to think that anything not connected to James B. Lansing is well, just not a real loudspeaker.

I am totally old-school separates after being totally spoiled by Yamaha and not knowing any other

1. Driving the amp into clipping!
2. Running at high power levels above the wattage rating of the speaker for a long period of time.
As long as you never get into ether condition 1 or 2 your OK!
#1 is the most dangerous since when an amp clips it is sending DC to the speaker.:biting:
I would say that 30w in the minimum amp power that I would use, but you could a 100w amp with out problems, as long as you remember #2;)

I've had one Yamaha; but now am on my 11th BGW (along with AB Systems or AB International); the BGW's are as solid as the day is long; and reasonably priced old school amps, used by Paramount in their theaters in the 80's.;)

:applaud:Thank you gentlemen for the good information. The 30 to 100 range is exactly what I wanted and jcrobso said it so much clearer than JBL in Speaker Power Requirements rev 7-90; don't clip and don't run high power and hot for long periods of time.

Good idea lgvenable about the BGW and AB Systems amps. I'm always looking for more information.

All best OJ.

Your are right lgvenable. Those BGW's are serious amps. PostSound has 1 250D for sale just listed 4/27, but more power than I need. One of their 100 or 110s would work.
