Finally got around to uploading the first testing of my D-1005. Hope you guys enjoy! It sounds really good, impressive bass, not overly bright, a bit peaky in the mids. About like I would expect :) I am not sure why I keep calling it the "L" 1005.... guess I am just programmed into the JBL number system.... I am L 'iterate'

WOW! Thanks for posting the video. Nice find, something about the old speakers, they may have their technical deficiencies and what not, and maybe not the ultimate in bandwidth extension in comparison to modern SOTA speakers, and YET, they convey the sense of the emotion of the music in the all critical vocal region!

Thanks Gabe, and whatever you decide to do with the D-1005, enjoy! :applaud:

Well, even though it makes me cringe a little bit to say this, I am probably going to turn it into a pair of Summits (my dream speakers ever since I had my first pair of Jubals) get myself another Kenwood 600 or 650, or pair of Kenwood Supreme mono blocks.... and then go on Vacation.... :)

That was probably a sin just saying that lol

I like the way you tactfully say 'not the ultimate in bandwith extension'... thats good! It's a little lacking in the ultra highs :)

Even on my small JBL PC speakers it sounded good.
One thing to remember when that speaker was made records were mono and Hi-Fi was less than 10 years old there was not a lot of highs about 12khz or so back then. If a speaker could do 12khz then is was doing a good job.

HOWEVER, and just as we did all those years ago, take the D-1005, use it as full range, and augment it with a subwoofer, and tweeters, or tweeter, as the case may be, and STAND BACK AND BEHOLD!

If one had a pair of D-1005,s, then had a really good sub, or pair of subs, and a tweeter on top of each D-1005, you would have a system with the exceptionally lucid sounding midrange these older TOTL speakers did so well, AND the frequency extension at the extremes and sonically is just PURE CREAM to listen to.

THIS IS HOW WE DO IT, :D
