Is there someone with experience of P771 (http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Sound%20Power%20P-Series/P771.pdf) and P749 (http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Sound%20Power%20P-Series/P749.pdf) and are they any good for use at home for music & HT? (Either in the original cabinets or use the parts in DIY cabinets)

The P771 have a 2451h driver on a 60x40 horn and a pair of 2227h woofers, the subwoofer P749 have a pair of 2243h.

Or is these speakers not very suited for use at home?

No experience with those cabinets, but all of the drivers could be put to
good (extreme overkill) use :) (not so clear to me about the horns though).

2243 is 2242 with a rubber surround, correct?

Basicly the 2243 is a 2242 with rubber surround, and 2227 a 2226 with rubber surround, but I've understood they behave quite different from their more famous "brothers", and I'm not sure if also the cone is different.

If the speakers had 2226 and 2242 instead the speakers already would have been mine, but since I don't know the 2227/2243 I'm not quite sure what to do.

Yes they are way overkill, but they are being only sold as a package so it's all or nothing :)

BTW: I think the horn might be JBL 2353 (http://www.usspeaker.com/jbl%202353-1.htm)!?

Hmm, I thought that the 2227 was still a cloth surround but with a 2242-like
motor (SVG), and plain (un-ribbed) cone. IIRC, Drew Daniels and bass players
were/are fans of this driver (that seems more to me like a pumped up E-145).
I'm sure there are data sheets at least for the 2227 that are searchable ... ah, here:

2243:

I've personally never had a need for a horn with that small a pattern,
but I do have a pair of 2352's that I like, and 2353's would probably have a
similar 'family' sound.

As-is, they would certainly make a very nice sound reinforcement system.

JBL 2227H have paper surround like JBL 2226G/H/J but with different cone.
2227 is midbass driver with the same magnet size like 2242 and frequency range from 50Hz-3kHz
I have use 2227 and it have a good clean midbass tone but dont go as low like 2226
