Hi all, Can you help me identitfy these diaphragms. One came out of a 2440, and the other was in a box of spare phragms I have.

The 2440 phragm has 8 mounting holes, whereas the phragm on the right has only 6.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

also looking for a pair of phragms to go into these labelled 2440 drivers.

Scotty.

ps. the 2440 on the left measures 7.3 ohms; the ? on the right measures 4.5 ohms.

I can't really help you but does that 6 holer fit?? It looks like it won't from the pictures. Maybe an Altec??

I did not try to fit it. I cleaned and polished up these two 2440's that I got, and got the gaps all cleaned out and taped them over. Then I started to measure DCR on the two phragms, then started to really look at them.

Wait just a tick...

No fit.

JBL 2440 3.90"
Unknown 4.10"

Quite a difference.

I also have a pair of Gauss 4" drivers at home, and I think they are 6000's. Maybe this phragm goes to that?

Okay, now where am I at?

These are a great looking pair of 2440's with proper foilcals.
Do I:
1. Find another 2440 used phragm to complete the pair for resale or personal project?
2. See if anyone out there is looking for a OEM 2440 phragm, and trade/barter for a pair of 2441 phragms?

I don't know.
Any help is appreciated!

Scotty.

ps. I have a brand new pair of D8R2445 OEM phragms in boxes. Turn them into 2445's? For who or what reason?

Scotty look, Do it for your own personal project. You may need two new JBL 2440 diaphragms if your single 2440 diaphragm has experienced hard use and is worn out. Used aluminum diaphragms can be very risky if the aluminum has seen hard use because this metal "work hardens" from microscopic bending many thousand times per second, ultimately rupturing.

Scotty, try <[email protected] ([email protected])> @ 1-607-237-5679; Dave told me when i bought mine, that JBL has been producing 2440 diaphragms in spurts, meaning that JBL accumulates orders to a quantity justifying a build at original catalog price approx' $240.00 each.

Be aware that 2440 is a PM version of the WECO 594-A driver and it is the professional version of the legendary JBL 375. You wont find a better smooth driver with excellent sound from 300 to 10,000 Hz than 2440's in the proper horn. Check it out with Guru Steve Schell who prefers 2440 over the 2441, Steve Schell can also recommend a good JBL 300 Hz horn for 2440.

It's for the gauss 2440 look-alike. will also fit the massive 4000 ceramic model. not sure about other interchangeability since my gauss book is MIA.

I didn't know anyone had NOS 2440 diaphragms available.. That might be a good choice.

Other options are JBL Titanium diaphragms, Radian 1245 and TrueXtent Beryllium diaphragms. All have trade offs. Titanium can sound harsh, Radians sound good but have a 10K rolloff and the TrueXtents aren't cheap. Is this for home HiFi, pro-sound or re-sale?

Thanks for all of the come-backs.

Mystery solved: This is a Gauss diaphragm out of the 4060 sitting here. I don't know if it is electrically good, so ...

I already have a pair of 2440's on 2309/2310 horns with 2405's for my workshop hi-fi. I was thinking of selling this pair of 2440's w/the 2440 phragm. Seems to make $ sense.

I would be just as happy with 2441 phragms in my own pair, or I was going to try the Radians from Scottyj Fitlin, but that hasn't materialized at all.

So, here I am, with a real nice pair of 2440 drivers with correct foilcals and one phragm.
Also a really BIG heavy pair of Gauss 4060 with one good, and one unknown, phragm.

Oh well. I should just boat anchor the whole lot in Cook Inlet, as its right outside my door. The problem is that the tide will go out and I will see them twice a day, as they won't float away very far!

Scotty.

OKay.

Solution #1. Both Gauss 4060 are good and sound exactly the same with a sine wave tone.

Now, to solution #2: Does any one have a single 2440 diaphragm to trade for something?

Morning, Scotty,

Congrats on scoring those 2440's! I would love to chance upon a nice pair of those, or 2441's, one of these days, for a decent price. I have a very nice pair of 2445's that Todd sold me, for a very nice price, and someday hope to do something fun with those. But, I was considering having the 'phragms aquaplassed, by someone who knows what they are about. I've read good things about that combination, and thought I would give it a try. Do you think that might be a good solution to your own situation? You have a new set of 2445 diaphragms, and if you aquaplas them, or have someone else do it, that might just be the solution for which you are looking. Just a thought.... Have fun with it, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc
