hi all,

I friend of mine and I are having a casual debate about several of our D131 and D120f speakers... and we are trying to sort out what is accurate and what is not.

can anyone confirm paper or cloth surrounds on original cone D120f, D131, D120F-6 etc.

I have what I believe to be several D120f with a doped paper surround, and the 21032 cone stamp... I also have several D131 with the same 21032 cone, but no dope.

My friend has several grey back D120f that appear to be original cones with the 21032 stamp but have doped cloth surrounds.

I have had several orange back D120f speakers with cloth, but have personally never seen a grey d120f with cloth unless it was a known re-cone.

There seems to be a wealth of info on this site about the various flavors of these speakers, but i'd like to hear it layed out in a concise, non-confusing way, so both of us know what we have. In reading the various threads on these speakers, there is major league conflicting info about these.

Of course, much like original PAFs, I suspect there to be unique situations and transitional speakers.... for instance, I owned a 64 Twin Reverb that had D131F speakers and the amps serial number was inked on frames, the cones were 21032, and they were not doped. I suspect these speakers were installed just prior to the advent of the D120f

Please Help!!

The D130 and D131 were hi fi speakers and didn't hae the gooped surround. The original D120F and D130F had the paper surround and were gooped.

All the D series speakers used the one piece cone originally, except for the D123 (which had the gooped cloth surround).

THanks Harvey,

so , any D120f that has a cloth surround would either have to be a recone using the 21032 K-120 kit that super ceded the original paper surround, or was a factory orange basket D120f that was made after the K120 speaker was developed?

can this be confirmed?
