Saw a speaker that used a 150-4c speaker cone and used a magnet assembly (pot) from a 375 driver. I understand JBL made the parts and Ampex put them together. I am wondering about the advantage of using the 375 magnet assembly. Would it be more efficient and would it sound better than a 150-4c or LE15A. Does anybody know about these?

There are at least two threads here already discussing these rare and collectable drivers.

Having a more powerful motor on a woofer will change the characteristics of the driver. Typically all other factors being equal, a larger magnet will increase upper bass and midband output relative to the lower bass.

Depending on your application, i.e. listening to music at home vs. collecting museum pieces, there are many, many woofer choices out there. :D

Thanks for the info. Have you ever heard any of these speakers, like the one that was listed for sale on Ebay (JBL/Ampex 150-4c, Model 520)? I read in one of the posts where the slug of the LE15A is as big as the 375. The reason I'm asking is because I own a JBL Paragon with LE15A"s. I also have a nice pair of 150-4C's and am curious about these speakers made by ampex.
