I have a chance to acquire the mini Valencia looking Madrid cabinets (empty) with the lattice grills. My question: I have a set of N500 crossovers and 511b/802 drivers. Would a 416 woofer work well in these cabinets as a bass bin crossed at 500Hz. There is a small square cut out above the 15" woofer cut out in the cab- so it wouldn't be a sealed enclosure. These would look like mini A-5s and would be very much eye candy. But would they be ear candy? Inside dimensions of the cab is 18 3/4" x 20 1/4" x 15 1/2". Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance

Nobody has ever tried to make a mini A5 out of these cabs?

Here are some pics of what I am dealing with. I've tried using this forum for responses but hardly ever get replies. I guess I'll try one more time.

Internal volume is 3.4058 cubic feet or 5885.2 cubic inches or 96.44 liters. What are the acceptable volume box parameters( range) for a 416 woofer?

- Altecs' 416 Woofers work best in enclosures that are 7.5 to 10 cu ft .

- Download WinIsd Pro (http://www.linearteam.dk/default.aspx?pageid=winisdpro) ( free "tuning" software for predicting box/speaker alignments ) .
- Get the online 416-8(B or C) TS parameters ( using google ) , enter those parameters into the program & tune away ( Try 9 cu ft tuned to 30 hz ).

- Your Madrids are nice looking speakers . I suggest you put some le14a ( JBL ) woofers into them ( obtained used from eBay & refoamed by the reconer of your choice ) . The 811b horn might fit above that woofer in the cabinet .
- The le14a works very nicely in 2.5 to 3.5 cu ft enclosures tuned to 31 hz .

The JBL 2226 would be another candidate for these boxes. they do very well in a ported box of this size.

I had 2226's in a similar box and it was great with a good horn above it.

The 2226 can handle a high crossover point (Wayne uses 1600 on his 4pi design) so intergrating with a 1" compression driver should work well.

They are beautiful cabinets.

That rectangle looks like it was made for a 3000 series tweeter.

The tweeter is the 30685 CTS tweeter. Good woofer great midrange, the bass is mediocre about 50 Hz in the cab

They would be great candidates for econo waves.....

Seal them up, use a JBL 2225, 2226, 2227 or other driver of choice and the smaller 6"x6" PTB99HF-1 wave guide (364914-001) in the existing port hole......:hmm:

It is a long read but pregnant with good info including crossover build info......:drive:

I didn't even think about JBL woofers. I do have a spare pair of 2420s mounted on H91s with LX16 crossovers. How well would that work with 2225s or 2226s in those cabs?
