Hey,

I made my final decision on buying a pair of JBL`s 2441 2inch drivers.

Now I`m wondering which horns would fit them the best?
They will be used at home from about 600hz up to 10khz....
The listening-position is 2,5meters away from the speakers.

At the moment I have no clue how the horns differ in sound and function....
JBL`s diffraction-lenses look nice, but altec`s multicells as well... The Altec 311-60 seem to be functional too....

What is your impression?
Please let us know :)

Thanks a lot,
Olaf

Have you heard any Smith horns?
I'm running my walnut clones with a pair of 1 inch drivers (2420) but they are supposed to really be sweet with 2441s ...

I might be wrong (and if so, someone please correct me), but I believe the Altec 311-60 has a 1.4" throat - whereas the 2441 is a 2".

i suggest auditioning/trying as many different horns as possible...

you may stumble across a design you hadn't really considered before...

be sure to take into account the horn's designed dispersion characteristics....

and have fun!

If You have not yet bought the drivers then have a look at JBL Technical Note Volume 1 Number 21: JBL’s New Optimized Aperture™
Horns and Low Distortion Drivers

Also have a look at JBL Technical Note Volume 1 Number 8: Characteristics of High-Frequency Compression Drivers.

There are also Notes about horns.

Hi Dr. db and other members of this forum. Hallo to you and all others! Iam a brand new menber.

I am a owner of a jbl 2440 driver. I prefer a jbl 2360 big horn. It sounds very good. To hear the voice whit this horn is absolutly strong an voluminous. 500hz up to 8000hz is perfect.
You will get a big sound bubble around your speaker-system.

I use a small d.a.s horn like jbl 2380 before. The low fq 500hz. It was also good, but absolutly differnet. The sound is still on a axle to the half of the listening room.

Greeting from Germany- niederrrhein! NF
