ALTEC Model 14 upgrades?

hello folks
aquired a pair of seemingly well functioning model 14s yesterday
does anyone have some good hints as to how to improve their sound:
smoother,better resolution and integration with the woofer.
any suggestions are appreciated

Upgrades....? 3 lbs of cotton batten in each of the horn mouths.

Seriously though, those things can be pretty bright. Nice bottom end from what I can remember.

yeah I noticed,but they boogey!
and I guess it can be cured by damping the back of the horns etc

since I got such meager results in this thread,I had to improvise:
cable from terminal to x/o is changed to Cardas SE
from x/o to drivers I used solidcore 1mm silver in cottonsleeves
same with wires to pots.
caps were replaced by Hovland musiccap 10µF and ERO 1840 2x1µF
result was very clear: MUCH better resolution and more pleasing to the ear.
next I´ll measure the inductor and damp the Mantaray horn
and change those ridiculous terminals
by the way: does anyone know how to bypass the protection circuit?

Hello Leif , im wondering why to upgrade the 14 and no move to model 15 , duplex 604 or 19 ? You can spend a lot of money in the

upgrades but at the end you cannot go as far as a 604 or the 19 . The mantaray are very good , so better leave them alone . Damp

the Mantaray ? , this is not the way . When people have that kind of desire , better change the horn or speakers . Just my opinion .

the model fourteen was hijacked by my youngest son of .....14:D
and they´re about the size he can fit into his overcrowded sleep/multimedia-room.
the 14s replaced a pair of Fostex kits from madisound, and was far more suitable for a youngster, who wants some fun, when gaming and listening to music.
so this is the end of that road....for now
next up is a pair of 816/515ghp bassbins with 811/908-8a horns for his 18 year old brother across the hallway.
