This is my first post. I searched for "Valencia Grill Remove" and couldn't find what I am looking for.

I have a pair of Vanencias that belong to a friend. He is coming this weekend to retrieve them and wanted to get inside. These speakers have the wood lattice grills. They are not in top condition. I'm thinking that we need to pull the grills to get inside.

How do we remove the grills? Will they be destroyed?

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure you DON'T. You unscrew the 7,000 screws holding the back on to get inside these babies. At least that is the case with the very similar Flamenco.

I have a couple of battery powered screwdrivers. I'll top up the batteries before this weekend.

I counted, there are 16 on each speaker. They must have been worried the backs might fall off. (there is no tongue-in-cheek smiley face to insert here)

So far I can't even see if the ports are next to the woofers or the tweeters.

Do you know if you can remove the tweeter and woofer from the inside?

Thanks!

yes, you remove the screws of the back and gain access to the inside of the cabinet. If there is space on each side of the 811b horn, then the model is 846A. If there are two round port tubes, then 846B.

There is NO way I know of to remove the "grill" without destroying it!!!

There were some aftermarket replacement grills once offered on this site, but I cannot recall whom or where.

Scotty.

Scotty,

Thanks, that is what I wondered about. I understand they are 846As. We will see. I have told the owner that there is no way I'm yanking on those grills!

I've had two pairs of Valencia 846As and the grilles are delicate to remove but not impossible. They aren't attached at the top and bottom and the center will pull outwards while you work one side but you have to be careful and watch for stress points, cracks and breaks that might give out.

In your case I wouldn't worry too much about it and they'll look better without the broken grilles.

DITTO - Unmodified, all of the drivers come out through the back. The rear baffle is removeable.

Here's a photo of my heavily modified Valencias after I replaced the front baffle:

I haven't been able to find the nails on mine but I have no reason to take them off so I'll leave them alone.

I've seen these and only wish you would have had them when I had my first 846As several years ago. I hope that you do well with them and the price is certainly good.

The answer is a little late. I posted in Jan. of 2010 and the speakers have been working well at the owner's home for quite a while. He is pretty happy with them but I have sent him a link to your auction in case he is interested.
