Open air Kef SP1014 placed tucked into the corner of the sofa like this and with gentle amount of power produced a nice vibration at different frequencies different angles around the sofa.
Rich gave me these and few other spares that he didn’t want a few years back when I visited him at home.
I was rather surprised at the frequency response when anciently stumbled on the pdf file for the technical specifications.

25Hz felt at the back of the sofa armrest as well
30Hz tone pick-up and more felt underneath sofa armrest as well
40Hz tone changing with different vibration
45Hz tone starting to dissipate slightly
50Hz the tone is too audible yet still vibrating
60Hz tone way too audible very little vibration

Playing a few Bluray vibrators (LFE.1 track only)
“Star Trek the motion picture” warp speed wormhole vibrated nicely it was like being on the bridge
“Heat” the shootout had mild LFE.1 effects as most of the deeper automatic machine gunfire is contented over the LCR. A few trickles of tickles added a since of realism when inside the car Neil aims the M-16 towards the windshield and the recoil is felt shortly but mildly deep.
The sequence at the airport with DC-10 taxiing along the runway was very, very loud and deep.
Star Trek III the search for Spock” stealing the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 has most of the deep low end playing over the LCR. When the LFE.1 track cuts in when the space dock doors open its, a slow low end rumble that gives the doors massive size.
When the crew is beating to the Klingons with no way of the situation that they’ve gotten themselves into, they blow her up! It had a few mild moments on the LFE.1 as its mostly played in different parts of the LCR.
Genesis planet finally exploring was like football being kicked with a deep, oomph!
“Star Trek IV the voyage home” (bird-of-pray) warp speeding towards the sun in attempt to slingshot around it and produce time-warp effect to get the crew to the past 20th century, built up nicely and threatening as they ship starts to buckle badly under the tremendous stresses.
As newly U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A leaves space dock her low end rumble is felt as she engagers her warp engines she blasts away with sudden jolt.
I’ll see how next week turns out and get some boarding cut to size with two 8” holes would be nice to have a different low end feel to accompany the rest of the sub bass, theo I can’t over do it otherwise at some point they might bottom out, but seeing how they played like this, impressive.
The lows didn’t take the ears like I get on some yellow Bournemouth buses for £3.70.

wouldn't a buttkicker be more efficient?

Greetings, Guys,
I heard/felt a pair of something like there, at a LH Friend's house, and whilst interesting, both Sweet Bride and I found them to be rather distracting, actually. We'd rather just hear the system as designed, without the "whole-lotta-shakin'-goin'-on" vibrators under the sofa!! ;) But, hey, that's just us, and others may really like that effect. If you do, I say, "go for it". We prefer to listen just to the music system, without the extra vibrations, other than what a good subwoofer might reproduce. Take care, and God Bless!
Every Good Wish,
Doc

This is the cheap way around and it does work, pop over right now or if you happen to have spare sub bass driver hanging around the home a simple few minutes to wire it up and tuck it in the corner, you’ll notice a difference to the lows.
Use caution with low level you don’t need to run it at the same silly high levels as its in close proximity.
As for butt-kickers and there prices aren’t too bad as well as been more manageable to attach to the underside of the sofa.;)

You would find it distracting if they weren’t balanced with ear so that you have just certain amount that the subs produce acoustically tonal lows on the ears as well as mildly vibrating the sofa (flooring depending on what type its made of)?
With tiny amount of the right amount per single driver unit to produce a vibration that you would note about…
Cars
Bus
Couchs
Airplanes
Boats
Trams
Motorbikes
Trains
Subway trains
Or even Warp speed engines on the U.S.S. Enterprise :bouncy::D
These different types of transpiration have different produce different types of vibrations they the rocking sensation is different mater entirely!
Some parts of the vibration reminded of the Empire but then they have the JBL really sorted out there!
I could try with 15” JBL tucked in the corner as I have tried in the past with its back against the spine of the sofa and it generated low vibrations into the sofa.
Might produce harder in the corner of the sofa?
I’ll get right on now!

Only took me less than 20 seconds to wire up JBL 2226.
Run a few quick sine wave tones using (REW) sound generator.
Played Bluray vibrator Star Trek IV the voyage home time-warp-travel sequence same more or less jittery vibration.
Played a few of the same moments from Bluray vibrator “Star Trek the motion picture” also the dong v’ger Jerry Goldsmith score and it vibrated with that buzz feeling without taxing the ears in room gain pain! The cinema Empire was light-years different on their original JBL and this had similar sensation.
Only thing that is missing is the pressurization against the chest!
But when travelling on bus I don’t feel pressurization against the chest. It’s mostly in the flooring and seating and yes acoustically pressurization on the ears unless you happen to have packet of ear plugs like I do!
The weight of the JBL 2226 was making the sofa look untidily as it was shifting the lower part forwards and I had to keep pushing it back, no not very practically! LOL
It’s impossible to fit this to the underside of the sofa due to its depth over the tiny Kef SP1014. Thou I could if I attached extra timber around the lower part of the sofa to give it a few extra inches then attach a base board with holes cut out per sub bass drive.
I think I’ll go with the smaller ones. I’ll take one of them down to the timber yard to size up the mounting hole and the size of base board that I need to screw to the under part of the sofa.
Should cost much no more than £15.00 or £20.00 pounds?

I encountered them at a friends house, was under-impressed. I prefer a 2245H at 600 wpc; 25 HZ....
that produces a whole lotta shakin too.

While playing the Vulcan shuttle craft approaching the U.S.S. Enterprise LFE.1 track only) I noticed a sharp popping that would be the limit and pursed the bluary straight-away and backed off a few db
I replayed it again with no issues. There is limit to how far I can push this Kef SP1014.
As long as I keep it within the technical tolerance limits it should vibrate nicely.
I took a frequency spectrum of the LFE.1 track noted few pink spots that might have caused the short popping in the 45Hz region I would say thou its possible it might have been in the 21Hz to 22Hz doubtful it would be 64Hz thou its possible.
It vibrated the sofa! The lows move though the back of the sofa then as the engines rev down the pitch moves to the lower part of the sofa underneath my large butt! Felt good I didn’t know Vulcan’s had deep feeling spaceships.:D

But its going to tax your ears and that thing called tinnitus won’t get any better.
The lows in the 40Hz region I felt at the Empire at most parts was pressure that wasn’t taxing my ears! It was pressurize tone centred at my chest body on the quiet opening of Star Trek II the Wrath of Khan. Even the closing credits had a similar musical tone like the opening that was vibrating.
I’ll try that on the Bluray vibrating Star Trek II the Wrath of Khan, KHANN! KHANN! See how it fairs. Thou I wouldn’t surprised if Empire had some extra hidden JBL low end transducers?:D

Hey Doc- my guess is that sort of thing was made for MOVIE enhancement - you know, feel the earthquakes, feel the rumble of a freight train or a tank ... not for music ...
and A Very New Year to you!
