Great Scottish voice. Fine songs. So it's a good production job by Chris Thomas. Listen to Miller/Trower song B3 "This love of mine"! Powerful backing by the Memphis Horns.

Fritz The Cat

This is the best one of Frankie Miller IMHO. Because here we have the powerful drumming by Simon Kirke (Free, Bad Company). Listen to the dynamics of the drum intro on A1 "I'd lie to you for your love". And thereafter the guitar solo played by Brian Robertson (Thin Lizzy) is still unforgettable. One for the island?

Back cover liner notes by Derek Abrahams: "They were young, probably not long out of school, and still experimenting with sound......., Mick Bolton 20, lead guitar....".

One hour space rock.
One of the greatest psychedelic long players ever released.
One hour of music in 2 little grooves on one piece of black vinyl in very good pressing quality and dynamics. The rule is: 40 minutes are the maximum for acceptable sound quality. But here we have the exception of the rule...

Fritz The Cat

The green Chrysalis label with the red butterfly was a sure sign of innovation in rock music of the 70ies. Cover design by famous Hipgnosis.

Very good dynamics/pressing. Label "Verve Folkways". Folk-rock 1966? Liner notes by Jerry Schoenbaum: "......possibly the most incandescent group in folk-rock today." From the view of today, we can't hear much of the typical folk music on this one as we would expect. Also Blues is a typical kind of folk music. Folk music has so many facets. B1"Violets of dawn" is pure folk-pop. Flower power. Tommy Flanders, vocals, departed after this album. Anybody knows about him today?

50 years old vinyl, a little bit mishandled, but it still sounds superb.
Psychedelic rock from Washington D.C. Fantastic cover art by Bill Clark & Lanny Tupper (-> Grin "Gone Crazy").

notes from several years ago:

May 1968 when Bloomfield was in the process of leaving the Electric Flag, and Stills was in the process of leaving Buffalo Springfield and a few weeks away from joining up with David Crosby and Graham Nash. with Harvey Brooks from Electric Flag on bass. I can hear the twangy Stills' Buffalo Springfield guitar chords on the Dylan tune; he also stretches out with some Hendrix-like amped up licks on the "You Don't Love Me" jam. love this record.

Yes, this is a highlight of the 80ies. No synthies. No pale faces. No fancy hairdo.
This is the German issue. These late 80ies black label pressings of RCA were superb.

I'm a fan of "Rare Earth", but realize that besides presentation their strength
was in program selection. The material that they wrote did NOT fare well, but
the tunes that they took from "The Temptations" are what propelled them.

As an extension from that I started to research the T's. Their presentation was
at times even better than RE's.

So, was happy recently to find this German CD with a fine track selection and
exemplary sonics. Can already see that it will be in the rotation cycle. :D

I bought this album today, had wrong records, but the cover was interesting. I can find NOTHING
about it on the web. It's Telefunken, obviously German, but besides that I'm in the dark.

Do you have any info ?? year ?? I'm pretty sure that it was marches :dont-know:

This is definitively not my piece of cake: German "Blasmusik" was the basis of Nazi culture. Look here: Wikipedia/Carl Woitschach.

are you sure it's WW2 ? Looking up "iron cross" brings a lot of WW1 hits ?

The Iron Cross is a famous German military medal dating back to the 19th century. During the 1930s, the Nazi regime in Germany superimposed a swastika on the traditional medal, turning it into a Nazi symbol.

45rpm maxi single.
Pete: "Street in the city"
Ronnie: "Annie"
Listen loud. Test your loudspeakers with "Street in the city". This a nice little sketch of everyday world. Pete looks out of the window and sings about what's happening on the street. Pete's Penny Lane?

Yesterday from my favorite records store BRO Records, St. Gallen.
1973 was not the right time for Dick Morrissey's English Jazz-rock. But now we know. After 45 years we can see clearly now, what we have missed. German green Brain-Metronome label. Cult!
(P.S.: we didn't have the money in 1973 to buy every interesting record.)
Thanks to Alex and his wife. If she is is present in the store, there is great music coming out of the loudspeakers: one hour of Deep Purple's "Concerto for group and orchestra"!!!!

I always liked that album from America. Then years later, in 1980, they came up with something that I never understood : "You could do magic".
Catchy for sure and obviously aimed at FM radios. But was that really the same group that I loved so much ? ;-)

Indeed. Same Band. Another time. Another producer. Russ Ballard produced "You could do magic". He made the hits. But the song had something magical though.
They could have done magic with George Martin.
