I don't have a couple of Hartford's early LPs, and today I run across this one in an antique mall on the way home from work for $4. His usual wise beyond years lyrics accompanied by banjo with a focus on relationships - much of it sounds like an expansion of his Gentle On My Mind masterpiece.

Looking at the front cover picture: this man seems to be sad, tired, depressed. He apparently is not happy with the results of the studio sessions for this album: the dynamics are rather poor. Kinney pressing's mostly are a little bit disappointing. Anyone able to hear the drum's cymbals or hi-hat played by Gary Mallaber? The vocals are clear and forceful.
Listen to the bottleneck guitar on track B4 "Out to sea" played by Wayne Perkins.
This album is a calm one, appropriate for this rainy sunday morning while preparing lunch.
The songs are not as sad as John David looks like on the pictures.
Anyone with a different opinion?

The young rock music vinyl fans don't know about the quality of those old vinyl issues of yesterday.... Or do they know???

when I saw NY last October 4th in Seattle, the tickets were $82 each. It was a smaller venue and the seats were about 20 rows from the stage on the right side - WAMU theater near Centurylink field.

It was recorded at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland, in early 1967, released in the UK as "Live at Kelvin Hall" - according to the Wikipedia article. Not a great live recording, as usual for many of the live records from US labels in this era.

This seventh one of Chilliwack was underpromoted due to the financial problems of Mushroom Records.
It was recorded twice as the label rejected the original version as insufficiently commercial.
Strange politics: a tragedy for these gifted musicians!

Great melodious softrock songs in the style of the first Eagles albums. Wonderful harmony vocals.

Darker Traffic? But, hey, Traffic had those wonderful vocals.......
IMHO this one is in the brass style of "Colosseum". But Colosseum had Clem and Heckstall-Smith........
Anyway this one is interesting because of the musical development of Manfred Mann in those weird times. No more pop group.
I am listening to this german version. It's a 1979 reissue on Bronze label. (Colosseum had the same label too...)

Though it's a little bit mistreated vinyl, the dynamics are pleasant.
Many samba tunes on this one for a hot summer day like this.
Superb guitar playing by Bola Sete and Jose Paula. Anybody owns vinyl by these two guitarists?

Always assumed Deedles was a nickname. Ms. Schuur is from Seattle. I met her in the mid-80s just as she was becoming a recording artist. Prior to that time, as a blind person living on her own - she was living in subsidized housing in a very cool location - literally just above Seattle's Pike Place Market, just around the corner from the original Starbucks coffee shop. I was working on a job out of college - with a government agency which did visits in the subsidized housing. She was, of course, soon to move out of these apartments and subsidized housing.

And hey, he is a good singer. I also like the fiddles, because i played the violin in my youth for 10 years and had to play all that classic songs by Beethoven, Vivaldi and Bach.
I didn't know then, that there is also a place for the violin in country music.

Remembering those 8 track cartridges which were used in cars in the 70ies. I didn't have a car then, so i don't have any of these ugly things. In thriftstores they can still be seen today. It's part of music history from the funny disco times.
They were invented by William P. Lear. Anybody knows? He developped the famous Lear Jets: these had very big sound!!!!
P.S.: Do you have any equipment left for listening to these 8 track cartridges? Do you have an old rusty car from the seventies left in your garden for listening to 8 track cartridges?

This is pure english music history! You can dive into it for hours and discover many interesting details. So many musicians accompanying Alexis Korner! Turn your head for seeing the picture below. Or better shake your head. He never was a musician with big commercial success. He went his own way no matter which wind blew.....Admirable attitude. He was the father of english bluesrock and a teacher for so many later famous musicians. Colin Hodgkinson: what a superb bass player on most of these recordings. Listen to track A1: the expressive saxophone solo by Mel Collins. A very special version of "Get off my cloud" on track A5 with Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton from Humble Pie. Keith Richards has a funny vocal solo part here. Obviously a big fun for all the musicians. B1"Honky Tonk Woman" a previously unreleased accoustic version in his own style. Also B2 "Spoonful" is a very witty version from a 1975 concert in Germany. In the seventies i didn't like his style. Not enough show effects and stardom attitude. No fancy clothes. But today i have another sight to his voice and style. Listen to Dick Morrissey sax and an expressive Colin Hodgkinson bass on track B3 "Daytime Song". A lesson! On track C1 we have Eric Clapton with a typical solo on his Les Paul and Chris Farlowe voc and a superb sax frontline with Morrissey/Heckstall/Collins et al.. Listen to the bass solo of Colin in track D3. He is also a superb backing singer. In the next days i have to put the CCS Lp's onto the turntable.....

And a top brass section!!!
This LP didn't have any chance in these times in England, because it was too jazzy/bluesy. But the Germans said YESSSSSSSS!

New 180gr vinyl pressing "Manufactured in Europe" by DOL. Reissue 2015.
DOL is a trademark of russian "VINYLOGY" www. vinylogy.ru.
Is this a russian pressing? Anybody knows?
Manufactured "in Europe" does not mean the same as "in EU". Russia is not partner of EU.
Warning: this pressing was incorrectly produced IMHO. There is acoustic and sratching noise on some tracks. Severe hissing on bonus track B4 "Exotica". No tendency to improve after washing with Hannl. Optically the vinyl surface looks perfect. The sticker "180 gr heavy vinyl" is not always a sign of quality!
Attention to such pressings of obscure origin. The customers have the right to know the original factory of the products! "EU" origin means nothing.........In this case it's not possible to get to know the origin of the pressing factory.
Anybody knows better?

I saw a lot of nice used titles but they were all 10 SF or greater - at least 2 times more expensive than I see for the same titles in the US. Good thing that my nephew provided the grilled sausage!

The Man record was an auto-buy for me because I have a couple of their earlier LPs - killer band! that market is definitely hit and miss on quality, lots of VG condition records, but it was easy enough to inspect them in direct sunlight when I was there. The Man record plays NM- and is great sound quality.

The Netherland Harvest pressing label shows "Fire Ball". Two separated words. "Ball" has different meanings???!!!
US version track A3 "Strange kind of woman" was not issued on European editions. This song was published as 45rpm single.

Listen to track A5 Greenaway/Cook's "Halleluja": for the first time we may listen to the (screaming!) voice of Ian Gillan on this 1969 45rpm single.
The guitar solos on "Emmaretta" track A3 are not really a highlight of Blackmore's career IMHO.
The furious guitar solo intro of "Strange kind of woman" is aiming right to my heart since 45 years........

Underrated 2nd solo album. A fine production of blues-rock tracks.
Great guitar work by Micky Moody. Produced by Roger Glover, BRAVO!
Let's forget the miserably dark cover with the fotos of DC thrown into the mud. The failed cover art doesn't fit together with the fantastic album tracks and the unconsumed powerful voice of DC (similar to the vocals of Paul Rodgers).
This could have been a very fine Deep Purple record. Without any hysterical screaming by Glenn Hughes........
Listen to track B3 " Say you love me" and let's think about the developmental possibility Deep Purple could have had with Micky Moody on guitar instead of Tommy Bolin!

This is a later US reissue of the 70ies. The inner sleeve shows further LP's of A&M, in example Wakeman/Daltrey's "Lisztomania" from 1975 (SP 4546). Somebody knows the exact year of publication of this reissue?

Definitively, Steve Morse was the best choice to replace Blackmore in 1994. Nobody is perfect. But with Morse, there was engaged a perfect group guitarist. And very very important: a fine charakter. Deep Purple business is a killing machine (Speed king). The show had to go on.
John Lord at his best here.
Listen to the simple but effective cult guitar riff on track A4 "Black Night": as a single 45rpm this was the kickstart in 1970 for a career extraordinaire. Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath: what fantastic summer we had in 1970, didn't we?

Forgotten musicians. Guitar driven softrock with fine vocal harmonies similar to the band "America". A lost gem.
The title of this LP is taken from the famous track B1 "Arms of Mary" written by Iain Sutherland. This song (the only not original one Chilliwack ever recorded) was covered many times. A big 1976 hit by Sutherland Brothers and later on by Smokie. Listen also to the other fine songs on this LP. Little masterpieces!
