He is a folk/bluegrass songwriter - oddball/Mark Twain lyrics. He wrote Gentle On My Mind in 1967 which Glen Campbell turned into a mega-hit.

Simply the best female voice today. With her own written songs! On the road in Europa this summer.
Superbly produced by Kevin Shirley. Listen to track B3 with Joe Bonamassa's guitar solo in "There in your heart". Great! One of the most sexy cover art in LP history IMHO.

Premium guitar combination by 2 of the most seminal guitar players.
Pete Haycock, with Climax Blues Band, guitarist extraordinaire, master of the slide guitar plays Höfner and Gordy guitars.
Steve Hunter, with Alice Cooper and Lou Reed et al., known as "El Grande" among guitar aficionados, plays Moser guitars.
Derek Holt was bass player with Climax Blues Band.
The H Factor first met as members of THE NIGHT OF THE GUITAR Tour in Europe 1989.
The group does a killer version of Wall of Voodoo's quirky hit "Mexican radio" on track B3.

I don't have a couple of Hartford's early LPs, and today I run across this one in an antique mall on the way home from work for $4. His usual wise beyond years lyrics accompanied by banjo with a focus on relationships - much of it sounds like an expansion of his Gentle On My Mind masterpiece.

Looking at the front cover picture: this man seems to be sad, tired, depressed. He apparently is not happy with the results of the studio sessions for this album: the dynamics are rather poor. Kinney pressing's mostly are a little bit disappointing. Anyone able to hear the drum's cymbals or hi-hat played by Gary Mallaber? The vocals are clear and forceful.
Listen to the bottleneck guitar on track B4 "Out to sea" played by Wayne Perkins.
This album is a calm one, appropriate for this rainy sunday morning while preparing lunch.
The songs are not as sad as John David looks like on the pictures.
Anyone with a different opinion?

This is a 180g remastered 2005 reissue from a Czechoslowakia pressing factory with IMHO rather disappointing dynamics. Where were these live songs recorded? Is there any information on the back cover? Acceptable live sound or similar to The Beatles' screaming noise of "Live at Hollywood Bowl"?

It was recorded at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland, in early 1967, released in the UK as "Live at Kelvin Hall" - according to the Wikipedia article. Not a great live recording, as usual for many of the live records from US labels in this era.

IMHO some kind of an audio museum!
This one is an important milestone of the music in the 20th century!

Good german pressing. Very fine dynamics.

This seventh one of Chilliwack was underpromoted due to the financial problems of Mushroom Records.
It was recorded twice as the label rejected the original version as insufficiently commercial.
Strange politics: a tragedy for these gifted musicians!
Listen to the driving track B3 "She keeps on crying".
Great melodious softrock songs in the style of the first Eagles albums. Wonderful harmony vocals.
IMHO a forgotten gem.......

Darker Traffic? But, hey, Traffic had those wonderful vocals.......
IMHO this one is in the brass style of "Colosseum". But Colosseum had Clem and Heckstall-Smith........
Anyway this one is interesting because of the musical development of Manfred Mann in those weird times. No more pop group.
I am listening to this german version. It's a 1979 reissue on Bronze label. (Colosseum had the same label too...)
Good pressing. Look at the different cover.

Always assumed Deedles was a nickname. Ms. Schuur is from Seattle. I met her in the mid-80s just as she was becoming a recording artist. Prior to that time, as a blind person living on her own - she was living in subsidized housing in a very cool location - literally just above Seattle's Pike Place Market, just around the corner from the original Starbucks coffee shop. I was working on a job out of college - with a government agency which did visits in the subsidized housing. She was, of course, soon to move out of these apartments and subsidized housing.

Because it's funny, happy, melodious, rhythmic. Very positiv mood.
And hey, he is a good singer. I also like the fiddles, because i played the violin in my youth for 10 years and had to play all that classic songs by Beethoven, Vivaldi and Bach.

This is pure english music history! You can dive into it for hours and discover many interesting details. So many musicians accompanying Alexis Korner! Turn your head for seeing the picture below. Or better shake your head. He never was a musician with big commercial success. He went his own way no matter which wind blew.....Admirable attitude. He was the father of english bluesrock and a teacher for so many later famous musicians. Colin Hodgkinson: what a superb bass player on most of these recordings. Listen to track A1: the expressive saxophone solo by Mel Collins. A very special version of "Get off my cloud" on track A5 with Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton from Humble Pie. Keith Richards has a funny vocal solo part here. Obviously a big fun for all the musicians. B1"Honky Tonk Woman" a previously unreleased accoustic version in his own style. Also B2 "Spoonful" is a very witty version from a 1975 concert in Germany. In the seventies i didn't like his style. Not enough show effects and stardom attitude. No fancy clothes. But today i have another sight to his voice and style. Listen to Dick Morrissey sax and an expressive Colin Hodgkinson bass on track B3 "Daytime Song". A lesson! On track C1 we have Eric Clapton with a typical solo on his Les Paul and Chris Farlowe voc and a superb sax frontline with Morrissey/Heckstall/Collins et al.. Listen to the bass solo of Colin in track D3. He is also a superb backing singer. In the next days i have to put the CCS Lp's onto the turntable.....

Sometimes it's a "Hard day's write": Korner, Korner, Korner,
In schooldays we had to write 100 times the correct writing......

Once again this one, because the musicians are very important:
Listen to the superb bass playing by Colin Hodgkinson on jazzy tracks B1/B2, recorded live at the Audimax, Hamburg, Dez.9, 1969.
Colin Hodgkinson is a wizard on bass! 2016 he still is on the road with Ric Lee and Chick Churchill as Ten Years After.
Andy Fraser (Free) bass on side A, recorded at Olympic Studios, London.
Paul Rodgers, vocals.
Peter Thorup great guitar and vocals on most tracks.
And a top brass section!!!
This LP didn't have any chance in these times in England, because it was too jazzy/bluesy. But the Germans said YESSSSSSSS!

New 180gr vinyl pressing "Manufactured in Europe" by DOL. Reissue 2015.
DOL is a trademark of russian "VINYLOGY" www. vinylogy.ru.
Is this a russian pressing? Anybody knows?
Manufactured "in Europe" does not mean the same as "in EU". Russia is not partner of EU.
Warning: this pressing was incorrectly produced IMHO. There is acoustic and sratching noise on some tracks. Severe hissing on bonus track B4 "Exotica". No tendency to improve after washing with Hannl. Optically the vinyl surface looks perfect. The sticker "180 gr heavy vinyl" is not always a sign of quality!
Attention to such pressings of obscure origin. The customers have the right to know the original factory of the products! "EU" origin means nothing.........In this case it's not possible to get to know the origin of the pressing factory.

Great. After this fleamarket purchase you didn't have any money left for a grilled sausage, right?
Today on fleamarkets in Switzerland it's nearly impossible to get any rare vinyl Lps. The used-vinyl market has been dried out by professional internet salesmen.

I saw a lot of nice used titles but they were all 10 SF or greater - at least 2 times more expensive than I see for the same titles in the US. Good thing that my nephew provided the grilled sausage!

The Man record was an auto-buy for me because I have a couple of their earlier LPs - killer band! that market is definitely hit and miss on quality, lots of VG condition records, but it was easy enough to inspect them in direct sunlight when I was there. The Man record plays NM- and is great sound quality.

Some interesting album out-takes as track C3 "Freedom" and track C4 "Slow train" and some curious studio improvisations. They had big fun in the studio!
Listen to the driving 45rpm single B-side "I'm alone".
Every time i listen to the ingenious solo guitar intro of "Strange kind of woman", i am amazed. Try to play it on guitar or try to sing it!
Strange kind of guitar solo intro........

Look at the beautiful cover girl with the pistol aiming in my direction. Strange kind of woman? Emmaretta?
Listen to track A5 Greenaway/Cook's "Halleluja": for the first time we may listen to the (screaming!) voice of Ian Gillan on this 1969 45rpm single.
The guitar solos on "Emmaretta" track A3 are not really a highlight of Blackmore's career IMHO.
The furious guitar solo intro of "Strange kind of woman" is aiming right to my heart since 45 years........

Underrated 2nd solo album. A fine production of blues-rock tracks.
Great guitar work by Micky Moody. Produced by Roger Glover, BRAVO!
Let's forget the miserably dark cover with the fotos of DC thrown into the mud. The failed cover art doesn't fit together with the fantastic album tracks and the unconsumed powerful voice of DC (similar to the vocals of Paul Rodgers).
This could have been a very fine Deep Purple record. Without any hysterical screaming by Glenn Hughes........
Listen to track B3 " Say you love me" and let's think about the developmental possibility Deep Purple could have had with Micky Moody on guitar instead of Tommy Bolin!

One of the most amazing tracks of Deep Purple ever is "Lazy". A chamäleon of a song........
So, on this one we may listen to a very fast and furious Mark 2 version recorded live in Phoenix, Arizona, 30. May 1987:
showing fresh and witty interplay of Blackmore and Lord. Track C2.

Amen! Yeah it's interesting seeing this sub-label from Ampex, I don't think I've seen others. The music is psych blues rock closer to Big Brother or Blues Magoos/Electric Prunes.

Very fine English pressing. Reissue around the year 1995. Matrix inscription YEX 605/ 606. Anybody knows the exact year of pressing?
Liner note on back cover concerning DMM technique: "This album has been Direct Metal Mastered (DMM) from a digital re-mastered original tape to give the best possible sound quality".
True or not: does DMM really stand for the best possible sound quality???

Definitively, Steve Morse was the best choice to replace Blackmore in 1994. Nobody is perfect. But with Morse, there was engaged a perfect group guitarist. And very very important: a fine charakter. Deep Purple business is a killing machine (Speed king). The show had to go on.
John Lord at his best here.
Listen to the simple but effective cult guitar riff on track A4 "Black Night": as a single 45rpm this was the kickstart in 1970 for a career extraordinaire. Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath: what fantastic summer we had in 1970, didn't we?
Montreux and Purple: what famous music history...........

Thriftstore find yesterday. Buck Owens has created hundreds of fine songs. Every one a little masterpiece.
The Buckaroos were the best Bakersfield cowboys.

Forgotten musicians. Guitar driven softrock with fine vocal harmonies similar to the band "America". A lost gem.
The title of this LP is taken from the famous track B1 "Arms of Mary" written by Iain Sutherland. This song (the only not original one Chilliwack ever recorded) was covered many times. A big 1976 hit by Sutherland Brothers and later on by Smokie. Listen also to the other fine songs on this LP. Little masterpieces!
40 years ago, i remember well......

Deluxe 2-LP Set on 180gr vinyl.
LP1: Original Album
LP2: Reference mixes of work in progress (Companion audio)
"The material on the companion disc presents a portal to the time of recording of Led Zeppelin. It's a selection of work in progress, with rough mixes, alternative versions and new material recorded at the time."
As Ken Hensley said "Proud words on a dusty shelve"!
New material in homeopathic dosis......
Beautiful words all in all. Do you need to buy LP2?
IMHO Jimi Page was and is a commercial magician. If you are not a professional studio technician, so forget LP2. You don't need that really. Let the magic of 1976 flow with the original work.......

Rivera played on Dylan's Desire LP in '75 and toured with the Rolling Thunder Revue. As AllMusic mentions, she puts Papa John Creech to shame here.

I don't know what to think. I guess I just haven't had time or interest in all the hoopla and minutiae around reissues / unreleased stuff from Led Zep ...or Pink Floyd.

Concerning my last post: after having listened to Ten Years After's "Woodchoppers Ball". On this dynamic Italian LP i have found a Woody Herman 1960 version. A wild one. Interesting comparison. Anybody owns further smokin' versions of "Woodchopper's Ball" on vinyl?

One of the most beautiful versions of "Waltzing Mathilda" in jazz music. 1976. Track B4 by Gerry Mulligan. With fine bass playing by George Duvivier.
Anybody owns further vinyl jazz versions of "Waltzing Mathilda?
The ragged version of Tom Waits was also a fantastic one, wasn't it?

A great book with impressive drawings by Piet Klaasse, who was born in 1918 in Amsterdam and died 2001.
120 portraits of jazz and blues musicians drawn on the scene.
You should see these drawings full of life!
As example Gerry Mulligan.

Fine Italian 1974 pressing. Wonderful versions of Hancock's "Watermelon man" and "Fat Mama" with great guitar by Pat Martino. Pat Martino uses "Wah Wah" pedals!!!!!
Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone again naturally": simply beautiful.
Carole King's "It's too late" makes everybody happy, especially in this version!

Calm powerful voice and many musicians friends.
Interesting mood is created because the bass guitar doesn't exist. The bass lines were played by Jon Sass with his tuba.

3 songs sung with a stuttering voice: "My Generation" by The Who, "Ain't seen nothing yet" by BTO and "Framed" by Alex Harvey. Here on track A1. Some kind of punk attitude?
Who is or was Isobel Goudie who didn't do the things she should (track A4)?
Wild bunch.......
