Trivia (http://www.elmoremagazine.com/category/trivia)
ElmoreMagazine.com (http://www.elmoremagazine.com) | February 19th, 2012 by Elmore Magazine

In February, 1949, RCA Victor introduced the 45 RPM record. To distinguish between styles, these were color-coded, each using a different color plastic. Rhythm & blues records were cherry red, pop records were black, classical came in red, with blue, yellow, and green for other styles of music. The first set of 45s was sent in a group of seven, each representing one style of music.

Yes. Free jazz lost in the cosmos with lots of drifting interplay between tenor sax, electric guitar (sounds like Larry Coryell) and bass. Really tasty, especially side 1 with the 20 minute Harvest Time track. It's a keeper!

Edit: I got a kick out of this reviewer's description of the LP:

Pharoah Sanders 1977 album released on the obscure label, India Navigation is by far his rarest and perhaps most beautiful album. "Harvest Time" fills up the first side of the record and contains some of Sanders most lyrical and forward tenor sax playing. Bathing in the atmosphere of lush chords from Tisziji Munoz's echoing electric guitar, Pharoah arises from the waters and glides on top of Munoz's motifs, caressing the majestic soundspace with lovely interpentrating soliloquies that bounce back and forth with bassist Steve Neil (sounding like Dave Holland) to then travel off into the cosmos to make love with some funky godhead residing inbetween Sirius and Torgious.

one of about 2 dozen amazing records that I found recently at a thrift store - I don't know how this and the other records ended up in a thrift store - that's why we look, cause you never know. Described as a noise band formed in the mid-60s in London, Ontario. freely improvised music performed on electric instruments created by the 7 musicians. The instruments approach the definition of guitar, bass, violin, along with drums, theremin, kazoo, spoken voice. Lots of bass, frantic drumming, and wailing and keening from the other instruments on side 1 so far, very enjoyable. a concert reviewer's note: "the most unimaginable howl of terrifying beauty... the unrelenting intensity of the nihilist's sonic napalm."

I found this info in the booklet , it was unknown to me

" Their big break came from Deram Records, an imprint of their Decca label, which in 1967 decided that it needed a long-playing record to promote its new "Deramic Stereo." The Moody Blues were picked for the proposed project, a rock version of Dvorak's New World Symphony, and immediately convinced the staff producer and the engineer to abandon the source material and permit the group to use a series of its own compositions that depicted an archetypal "day," from morning to night. Using the tracks laid down by the band, and orchestrated by conductor Peter Knight, the resulting album Days of Future Passed became a landmark in the band's history. The mix of rock and classical sounds was new, and at first puzzled the record company, but eventually the record was issued. This album, and its singles "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon," hooked directly into the musical sides of the Summer of Love and its aftermath."

I don't know if the cover ever had an OBI strip, no sign of glue. I was happy when I looked at the record label and saw it's a Warner-Pioneer Japanese pressing. The record sounds wonderful like other Japanese pressings I've heard, the bass is tight and deeeeep.

Classic Floyd--some great songs on this LP. I've always preferred their Gilmour era stuff like this one (post Barrett) although Sid undeniably had his own moments of genius as well. Notice on the LP's label it says "music from the film The Valley". I've never seen this film, but I see that it's available from Amazon--tempted to buy a copy.....

Those of us who don't speak French should be careful not to confuse "La Vallee" with L.A. Valley which I presume would have been a very different film! http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/images/smilies/wink.gif

Some of the folks at AudioGon were talking about this album this week - Abraxas Pool.
Its a newer album by a lot of the folks from the original Santana Band, without Carlos ...
Gregg Rolie, Michael Shrieve, Neal Schon, Alphonso Johnson, plus Michael Carabello and Jose Areas ...

Heard some teaser snips so I bought the CD used midweek (its a 1997 CD thats apparently out of print).
CD arrived yesterday and its VERY nice ...
really has the feel of that early band - quite impressive!

Understand I have a LOT of the early and mid period Santana ... from the main 3, plus Caravansarei, Borboletta. Lotus, and Moonflower -
I've got Supernatural and Shaman - they mostly make me want to hear older material - ...

That said - if you like the early band - you'll probably enjoy Abraxas Pool.

Great album! This was Television's best effort IMHO. I agree with you about the guitar work, Television guitarist Richard Lloyd really shines on this LP. He went on to record and tour with Matthew Sweet (a phenomenal "retro"/60's style artist). Richard Lloyd has a really unique style--I saw Matthew Sweet this summer in Buffalo, NY and you could tell that it wasn't easy for his new guitarist to play Richard's guitar leads! (although he did a great job at it and really sounded excellent). Matthew's latest tour celebrated the 20th anniversary of his "Girlfriend" album and he played the album in it's entirety (plus newer great material as well). Here are three cuts from that LP featuring Richard Lloyd on guitar....

Ann Pebble. Excellent Memphis Soul from the mid 1970s. Purchased this disc in the early 1980s. The label is Hi-Records, same label as Otis Clay, Al Green, Syl Johnson. Ann Pebble is perhaps Al Green's female counterpart. She's mostly known for "I can't stand the rain" and "I'm gonna tear your playhouse down" which was covered by Paul Young in the mid 1980s. But every track on this album is superb. A must have for Soul lovers.

I found this Elvis Costello on the bottom of the pile and checked the vinyl , mint.

asked for price and seller asked if I had looked at the cover ? he won it
in a radio station contest along with 2 tickets to see EC in Eugene.

I googled his signature ...looks reasonably close.

Speaking of autograph. I spent the evening in an hotel lobby with Willy Deville back in 1984 when he visited Montreal. The band split in 1986 and Willy died in 2008 from pancreatic cancer after a long life spent with smack.

This album is beautiful.
The voice of the singer is great for analyzing the quality of crossing between tweeters, mids and mid-bass.

One of the other forums got talking about B-sides better than A sides, and it got me thinking about
the Steve Miller Band vinyl classic -
Recall the Beginning ... A Journey from Eden

Side one is a fun romp, but side 2 ...Whoah!

"Love's Riddle" – 3:25
"Fandango" – 3:57
"Nothing Lasts" – 4:08
"Journey from Eden" – 6:45

56792

And of course, the big deal lately is the new Mark Knopfler album "Privateering"

just got it the other day and we've been looping it quite a bit -
got some nice bluesy harp on "Don't Forget Your hat", some good lyrics on a couple tracks ...
Great guitar playing throughout
All in all, a good album with a lot of styles

Answer

Only on vinyl and super rare...

Only released on record and seems to be insanely rare. We need someone who has the record to mp3 it, or Columbia to release on CD.."

A suprising Goodwill find today. The record is stamped on the side 2 label and cover as from the music library at Western Washington University. I've noticed dozens of records with similar WWU music library labels at three different local Goodwills over the past month - the majority of the records are really nice classical titles. WWU is a couple of hours drive north of Seattle in Bellingham, WA, close to Vancouver BC, beautiful location/campus with 11,000 enrollment, and where my son started classes as a freshman just a couple of weeks ago (I'm jealous).

This is an amazing album--some great early Todd and a very under-appreciated LP IMHO. Todd really came into his own as a songwriter on this one--very soulful songs and consistent writing. A friend of mine used to say that on Todd's early albums (like this one) he sounded like a "male Carol King"!
