A subwoofer to keep up with my L212s

I've been toting around a 2240H basket and 2245 cone kit for years with the hopes of either stumbling across or building a cabinet to house it. As is happens, I was scanning Craigslist the other day and found a 4645B cabinet in good shape for cheaper than I could have built a clone.
I built the 2240H into a 2245H with an aftermarket kit. I bought one of the excellent and NLA Avcoils from Sam Saye years ago. It is as nicely wound and finished as an original JBL and its DCR is dead nuts to spec. Using my trusty Woofer Tester 3, I found that adding about 15 grams brought the fs to 20.58 Hz. Close enough for gov't work.

Right now I have it crossed over at 80Hz with a dbx 120X-DS and powered with an Electro-Voice 7300A power amp delivering 600 watts bridged into 8 ohms. It's more than enough to shake my 20' X 20' living room, and I'm sure that it would probably blend in and sound a little better if I had the proper crossover. I'll have to build one someday.....
And yes, I'm aware that the corner of the room really isn't the best place for the sub, but it was the only space available.

I have not heard about, nor thought of, Sam Saye, for many years, now! Is he still doing his thing? "Back in the day", we San Diego musicians used to buy JBL and Altec stuff from him all the time! I still have some of the goodies that I got from Sam. Though I didn't know him well, I always felt that I got a good deal from him, and that he as an interested, interesting, and nice Gent. Believe it or not, I used to get his coils through Image/Waldom years ago, and they actually made a pretty big deal about being a supplier of his product. Those are by far the best aftermarket edgewound voice coils that I've ever used. I wish I could still get them.
Nowadays a google search turns up next to nothing about him, it's like he just fell off the planet.

Like a kid with a new toy, I've been going through the bassiest (is that even a word?:D) music in my collection. Classical Thunder I & II from Telarc, Yello "One Second", Spawn soundtrack, Sublime and such.
Once the new wears off a little, I'll dial it in to be a little less obtrusive and a bit more seamless. I"m also going to have to try it out with my L220s and my ESS AMT-6s as well.

I thought the sub bass driver was different (JBL 2242). Just how well does it sound/feel in the sofa chair while playing single sine wave tones and where do you feel those tones on your body as well as the sofa as that makes bit of difference as to how you will feel the lows in your room.

Those JBL 4645B have there ports bending upwards how far back I, mean how long are those ports and the diameter, why not a picture from the inside of the sub.

The length of the port is still needed of coarse as I’m only guessing from the picture the scale of where the 18” sub loads and the rough diameter to distance before the ports bend off at 45° angle.

You are correct, 2242H is the driver that this cabinet would have been equipped with from JBL.
From what I can tell from JBLs technical notes, and various posts on this forum, a 2245H (which I already had just laying about:D) will work fine in this cabinet with no retuning.
It should play a little deeper than the 2242, and naturally it won't have the SPL capability, but so far it's plenty loud. Its output can easily overwhelm the sound from the L212s, and I haven't seen a "clip" indicator light up on that EV amplifier.

I don't know how it is with sine waves, but the tympani in Berlioz' "Damnation of Faust" sure gives me a grin.
