I've noticed that there are (at least) two different configurations for the Valencias, one where there are two ports either side of the woofer, and one where the cutout for the 811b horn has a gap in the baffle on each side.

Can anyone explain why the difference? Which configuration is best for the 16-ohm version of the Valencias?

Thanks

Others may know for certain, but I found these two pages in the library:

846A: http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/altec/reference/1975-drivers/page05.jpg (http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/altec/reference/1975-drivers/page05.jpg)

846B: http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/altec/reference/1975-drivers/page06.jpg (http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/altec/reference/1975-drivers/page06.jpg)

I believe that the 846B model is the cabinet with the two round ports. The cabinet part number looks like 32398. You can see the original drivers and crossover networks listed in the tables. Looks like if the 416-16Z is the only 16 ohm woofer, looks like it only came in the earlier 846A cabinet.

This is also my understanding. The "A" flavor has its ports adjacent to the horn.
