Sold a pair of L212s and upon deliver one of the hi freqs (the 066) is distorting.

Parts no longer availiable from JBL.

Any suggestions other than eBay?

I think people are going into hoard mode with these things. I myself have no new diaphragms left. :(

BTW - I was told JBL hadn't run new diaphragms for the 066 since the mid-80's. All those kits were that old. Alot of the kits themselves had the paint flaking off the domes. JBL kept those kits around and shipped them here and yonder for twenty years.

..somehow I expected the "hord mode" would kick in and apparently, it has already started.

..somehow I expected the "hord mode" would kick in and apparently, it has already started. What I meant by hoard mode was that people were probably keeping spares around to service systems they might already own... JBL ran out of the kits several years ago. The machine used to make them died twenty years ago.

The perfect pair on eBay right now for $650 is absurd. There is nothing about an 066 that remotely warrants such a price. They simply aren't that good... Hell, for that kind of money even I would pull a Zilch and demosaw the baffles to bolt in some waveguides instead. :rotfl:

Besides... spending that kind of money on those things is seriously asking for trouble. You just know that one of them would end up face down on the table as you tried to carefully remove it from its box. :rotfl:

The perfect pair on eBay right now for $650 is absurd. There is nothing about an 066 that remotely warrants such a price. I vaguely recall reading here about the possibility of swapping the 044 diaphragm for the 066. I could be wrong and I wasn't able to find it using the search. Obviously they're not the same part number but will the diaphragms swap between the two? Or, per usually, am I dreaming?:dont-know

Same question unanswered here:
Also are the 044 and 066 diaphragms interchaingable?
Fit and function wise both please.

Any reason to think this is not actually an issue with the L-pad?

What is a decent price for clean used ones?

AND . . . wasn't there a midrun change to lower the resonance that resulted in a change of the crossover? Can they be used interchangeably? Are the serial numbers for the change known?

What was the last price on the kits? (as a guide to a fair price now).

What was the last price on the kits? (as a guide to a fair price now).I posted it somewhere. JBL Consumer screwed up the price at one point in the early half of this decade and they were like $200 each. I believe they finally ended up back at the more normal price of around $100 each and then promptly sold out.

Keep in mind that, from a pure performance perspective, the little $25 Audax in the PT800 or PC600 gives them a real good run for their money. :) Of course that doesn't really help someone restoring a pair of 4313's, L166's or L212's...
