I believe JBL used 16 ga. copper standed wire for inside their larger speakers.
When I re-wired my JBL 4320 Studio Monitors I used stranded 14 ga. hook-up wire on the woofer and 16 ga. on everything else.
Some say you should use 14 or 12 ga on the low end drivers, 14 or 16 ga. on the mids, and very fine wire, adding up to at least 18 ga. on the high end. I think the idea is to provide a food copper path with plenty of fine strands to deliver the detail of the signals. Beyond that, it becomes opinion.

Heck, Parts Express sells a duplex wall receptacle for $154.00 and a 6' power cord for $492.00!

I use 14ga inside but that just plain overkill. You have the smaller terminals on some drivers so use what fits be it 16 or 14. Either one will get the job done. Just remember you have series inductors and it doesn't make much sense to go to far above their gage. Any doubt on that try unwinding one to see how many feet of 20ga or less wire there is in one.
