Hi,
New to this fourm, I had klipch Lascala before and found the high ear piercing so I bought all british gear Vintage but my amp is mere 35 watts and the kef 107/2 like power so I'm thinking on a trade for altec 9844b in new custom cabs. the two woofer are vertical and the horn is on top the inside dimension as far as cubic inches are close to the same. what do you think? how will it sound I have never listen to vintage altec before.

...opinion...

won't go as high or low as the 107's or be as refined, won't have the
visceral punch of the LaScala, but might go a bit lower. Having said
all that, the dual 414's with an altec 811 horn and driver can sound
pretty appealing, depending on your tastes in music and fidelity (musical).

A vertical arrangement would be something like the Altec Malibu system,
IIRC... had the N-800F network.

I'm looking for as close to live instrument as I can get no color from the speaker if that is possible.. purest sound..
Thanks rob

"As close as you can get" is, of course, possible.

You have to pick your fights though.

I -personally- would not recommend altec 9844s, based on your latest
criteria... certainly not without an extended listen (by you) first.

Musically satisfying and "as close to live music as you can get" are both
-very- subjective notions, the latter being much less well defined.

Thanks, I have Naim Vintage chrome bumper the amp is 35 watts at 8 ohm and the speakers are 4 ohm sensitivity is 89db it sound awesome, But I have been reading to get the full potential out them I need lots of power. that's why I was, but not going to trade. Thanks again please fill free to give more advice.
What I going to do now is get a vintage receiver/amp? for a tuner and TT since the naim does not have those buit in with spending more money then I want. Any Ideal

If I have this right, you have an older Naim amp, KEF 107's, -were- going
to trade the 107's for some custom 9844's, but now are not... and are looking
for an inexpensive "vintage" receiver to give you radio, phono, and presumably
more watts to stroke the rationalization that you -need- more watts...?

...all because the internet says so? regardless of your impression that the
amp/speaker combination sounds awesome? I fully understand the pull
of upgradophilia... but my humble suggestion would be for you to still have
a listen to the 9844's if that's possible, and then consider your goals and
budget a bit further. It's tough to compromise. Sorry if this sounds preachy
or condescending... more like:

not that I need more watts, I want to bring out the best of either the kef's or naim gear and would like a TT but it cost abit for the Naim cards for TT. But yes I am and addict to the stereo bug :banghead::banghead:
