JBL 375 with 2309?

Do you think this is the 375 driver? There`s no label on the back and I`m a rookie on JBL models.

either a 375 or 2440. the 2309 horn is used with the 2310 folded plate.

i think we have 2 new 2309's & 1 2310 in the box

Serialnumber on the horn is: 10818. The driver looks very old. I dont have the folded plate diffusor.

A 2440 would have the larger spring loaded push terminals – like all pro drivers.

The dia is a first gen 2441 though. Note the diamond surround and the small "cap" glued on the center....

The 2440 had a different back cap AND was gray *only*...C'mon guys...

Right! Also, obviously the outer casing paint has seen better days and suggest it was either in a high humidity/high heat environment or subjected to environmental stress. Also, look at the goofy condition the diaphragm is in - rust on the connecting terminal, fingerprints, fer crying out loud, on the diaphragm - may have been some acidic sweat? And there looks like a couple of broad marker brush strokes which may have been taken off with solvent?? Sharpie, like on the mounting plate?

So Issak, if you have this in your possession, what does the inside of the back cover cap look like, is the foam pad there rotted out? Do the outside push terminal have a lot of corrosion? Also, take the horn off and look down the throat of the driver to see if there is any evidence of cracking.

Is it playing well or is there any distortion when listening to it? If you do keep it, it may be worth having a JBL tech go through it and test the magnetic gap stregth and clean the gap and reinstall the diaphragm.

Black foam on the inside lid, yes. All rotted and turns to dust when you touch it. Previous owner told me it plays very well. Looking down the front, everything seems ok.

Ok, pad will likely require replacement with thin (1/4 inch, about 5-7mm) open cell foam.

You can likely rehab the outer casing with some nice black crinkle finish paint. However, be careful if you need to heat the paint to crinkle it, I think excessive heat may have an adverse effect on the Alnico magnet.

There is an ebay seller, sign-shop, who can supply a new oval shaped ID badge for a 375 type driver.

A good clean up of the corrosion or new screws will help.

:) I have come across some special paint that will have the same effect as the original without heating, will change the foam today and change the rusty screws on the diaphragm.

...excessive heat may have an adverse effect on the Alnico magnet.If I interpreted (and remember :)) the materials I found on Alnico V material
properly, heat was not really an issue, in terms of paint curing/crinkling ranges.

I can't speak for the rest of the materials, adhesives, plastic on connectors,
foam on covers, etc... which presumably would be removed where possible
prior to painting.

even then. On buying some recently [apart from being in Aus.] the brand is VHT from downtown Cleveland, OH. Check their web


www.vhtpaint.com (http://www.vhtpaint.com) under the name Wrinkle Plus high temperature [350°F/177°C] so there is no baking necessary - just "spray on!"
