Hi Eckhard, it's me again :cool:

this is the right question for Giskard.
I can imagine, that they (JBL) have a detailed list with the numbers (for guarantee problems) and are able to find out the fabrication year.
What should the numbers be for, if not for this???

I know for a fact that this is not the case. The Northridge earthquake back in 1993 destroyed the majority of JBL's production records. Therefore, they have lost the ability to correlate serial numbers with year of production.

Well, since you're asking for guesses...

I have seen D130 serial numbers as high as 90661 so I think your 82039 serial number would place it kind of towards the end of the line in the mid to late 1960s.

Just a guess until we get more info in the serial number registry thread

Hi Sluggo,

the JBL-Registry says:
No. 26536----> 1957
No. 40812----> 1960

highest No. in the Registry: 212167 -----> ??

The D130 was first built in 1948 and the last in 1977 (unconfirmed)
Glen maybe right with his assumption mid to late 60's

Hi HP,
The 212167 (may actually be 212147) is an old cutcorners label, presumably from December of 1952

Thanks for the warm welcome HP. I could use a little help identifying the cabinets.they're rear projection bass reflection, The only identification I have on them is a sticker inside each cabinet that reads.....

To adjust R4 cabinet response space this plate from bottom opening in cabinet with the exact number and size of spacer block on each side as listed below. Suggested settings found suitable for popular speakers shown (these setttings do not necessarily correspond with resonant frequency as given by manufacturer).

20 cps one 1/2" spacer

30 cps two 1/2"

35 cps one 1/2" + one 3/4" woofers stephens electrovoice
woofers

40 cps one 1/2", two 3/4" free cone speakers stephens 15"
and 12", Electrovoice 15" and 12",
JBL 15" and 12", altec 15"

65 cps remove plate and university and Jensen 15"
spacers

The demensions are 24"X24"X18" depth with a very nice finish will get pics if you'd like.

Thanks Steve

I run these with a 1959 EICO HT-91 kit tube amp and an off the shelf sansui cd player at the moment listening to alvin lee and ten years after pure blues (a pure delight) heres the kicker total cost of this orgasm of audio ...fifty cents(the sansui's a loaner) i guess what i'm saying is i'm hooked i'll never go back to solid state again I mean this modest little system puts my ex's and now my ex 500 watt kenwwood and 901's to shame ,I'm in love

I have the serials off one of my d130s, the serial on it is 87681, the cone (if i am talking about the right thing) has a 21057 number in white ink on it. the 075 in the case has a serial of 76744, Previous owner was Don Walker in Muscle Shoals, AL, he bought them new, new owner, Don Walker II.

I have been reading up on these products and what is weird is that both of these speakers, the 075 and the d130 both have 8 ohms on them, but from what i understand is they are actually 16 ohms? just curious, thanks guys, when do you think these d130s were made and bought, late 60's?

I've got a couple 150 4C's that have been trying to get me to guess their age.
They each have an N400 crossover stamped with the date "Oct 24, 1962", and are mounted in what appears to be the 4530 enclosure.
( I say "appears to be..." because I have not found anything on or in the enclosures themselves that positively identifies them as true JBLs. But they are definitely built to the specs of the 4530.)

The serial numbers on the 150 4Cs are 11693, and 12135.
I can only read one of the N400 serial numbers. And that number would be 1874.

It sure would be nice if I could surprise them by guessing their age correctly on my first try. And I really would appreciate it if one of you could help me out with this.

Hi Anubis,

your 150-4C seem to be from 3rd or 4th Q in 1959, also the N400 have the same date.
I put them in our Registry.

Hope this helps.

I am the original owner of two D130s. Their serial numbers are 16439 and 39025. I bought them in the 60s. When were they produced? Can I register them? I also inherited from my father a D130 in a cabinet with the JBL emblem on the grill cloth. The cabinet has no labels on it. The serial # of that d130 is 62154. The only thing in the cabinet was the D 130. The closest thing I could match it to is the C40.

Hi,

I fed them into the registry and it seems that:
16439 = 1957
39025 = 1960
62154 = 1963

Hello, I'm new to the group and just picked up some beautiful Acousti-craft cabinets featuring a pair of the Signature D130's. I have not yet pulled the speakers to inspect them, but they sound beautiful!
The serial numbers are 50310 and 50313. Am I correct to guess they would be from '61 or '62?
I'll have to post some photos of these gems....what a find!

Hi there

First post for me. Although being a JBL fanatic for four years.

I have a minty pair of Olympus S8Rs with serials 51319 / 51320. Can anyone specify when these were made?

With kind regards

Based on what I'm reading, my D130 was manufactured in January 1954?
