Hi.

After reading these posts made by Johnny, post #1, (http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=8363&highlight=preparation) post #2, (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=16207)I decided to make a radial woodhorn out of Nyatoh solid wood.

I emailed Johnny and he helped me understand how to use his spredsheet.

Here are a couple of pictures of the horn making process, the finished horn, and the measurement.

The horn is still in raw wood, and I think the top end freq. will be better with two coats of varnish.

I have only made one horn so far, but will start on the other one next week, I will also try some other drivers (Altec 902-16HF, Fostex FD-600, Eminence PSD2002), to see how they perform in the horn.

Regards
Kim

Thanks for sharing... really nice to see. I wouldn't count on varnish making much of a difference. After you try a few drivers and compare them, you'll have a better idea of how well your horn is working. Many of these vintage drivers are now far from linear due to the aging of the diaphragms.... and some never were particularly linear.

I'd be most concerned about that peak at 2KHz... hopefully it is due to the driver and not your horn, that said, you might find it gives the sense of extra detail, and you might enjoy it's sound.
