dose anyone know when Altec switched from grey to green? Late '40s - early '50s?

I have a set of 803a grey basket speakers and I would like to date them. They are 12ohm and one has a serial # of 3237.

thanks for any help,:banghead:

The earliest 515, 803 and 803A drivers had the gray crinkle paint. The hammertone green paint replaced the gray in 1952 or 1953 to the best of my knowledge.

The 803 began in 1947 with a pressed frame sourced from Utah as part of the Model 800 VOTT. Within a short time (few months) it was replaced with the 803A with slightly more powerful magnet structure and cast frame. A serial number of 3237 is pretty early, I'd guess 1948 or 1949.

ehhh... no, but for another data point, the 604Bs here have the grey baskets.
I can check the serial numbers, if that can help ID the year (I have no idea).

So that would make my 20ohm 515s and 288b's pre-52? cool.
