View Full Version : Chamber size on compression drivers

I have a general question about compression drivers. How does the size of the chamber behind the diaphragm affect the response of the driver? Does enlarging this space change the impedance or the resonant frequency in any way? Has anyone experimented to see what changes in sound occur when a large chamber is behind the diaphragm? I'm just curious.

Hello Steve,

It could have an effect depending on the compliance of the compression driver surround, but whatever one tried to reduce the resonant frequency, low frequency reproduction would limited by the horn flare rate (and of course the excursion limits) of the compression driver.
