I have heard that for a mobile PA, the PRX simply dominates the EON in Bass quality and output. In at least one anecdote the person took back their EON sub and got a PRX and felt bass output was much higher.

Can anyone here confirm or deny that? The specs are really similar but the PRX is a few pounds more, a tad more expensive and has a box made out of wood (I think) versus the EON's molded plastic.

I want to pick up a sub and I would like it to match my EON 515's so I would prefer to buy the EON sub, but if the bass is that much better on the PRX it just makes sense to go that route. Problem is I cannot find anyplace I can here the two side by side.

You sure about that weight difference? Isn't it closer to like 25lbs?

Eon products are focused on portability, ease of use, and all weather durability. It would not surprise me in the slightest if the PRX had a little better output, though they are both rated for the same peak SPL.

But wood cabs wear differently than the EON composites, and 65lbs vs 80lbs is a big difference if you are hauling the thing to gigs every day.

They are both plywood enclosures.
PRX is 14 lbs. higher in weight. The Eon and PRX use different 18's.

Now, if people are talking about comparing the NEW PRX718S to the Eon, I would think it noticeable, for, among other things, using the 2268FF driver.

I use both Eon 518's and SRX718S's (2268 driver) and there is a rather huge difference in their sound quality and output, as you would hope, given the price differential (SRX is not powered).
The PRX718 may well be worth hearing.

The Eon sub is fine, for what it is; portable, occassionally suprising, generally adequate but not enough horsepower and headroom for a fair amount of what I do. Can run out of steam outdoors pretty quickly. Hauls and packs nicely but the factory padded bag completely sucks.

If would think you could with a tad more effort. Hearing them side by side would be worthwhile for you.
