After flying to sydney and inspecting these wonderful speakers, the deal was done, with marvin. It has been a long time coming as these speakers are very rare in Australia or any rare jbl monitor for that matter. they are in very good condition, they just need a good clean and dust off which i am happy to do!!! they came with a jblb460 aswell, which i am planning to hook up on the weekend for a listening session.:applaud:

Nice!!!!! Now I think there are only two sets of the dd55000 in Australia (jump in and let us know if you are aware of others) and now both sets are in Geelong; which is hardly a metropolis of Australia. ahahha...

Intersound Hifi, in Balwyn, Melbourne, had a pair in the very late 1980s which I thought were in blue cloth. The horn had a surface which could get dusty. There was a matching cover for the horn half. The cabinets had done the rounds and were little rough on the edges. The price was about $8k.

They have a fantastic visual impact. You get a lot of speaker for your money. The owner, who I had a lot of respect for, said the bass was a little soft compared with traditional JBL studio monitors. I didn't audition out of fear of getting addicted and having to purchase.

These speakers make a statement. They should reward handsomely an owner who is prepared to work with their strengths and weaknesses. I look forward to a fair dinkum review of their performance in the home.

I know that pair, used to drive past and lust. I heard them playing at a hifi show and they were "cranked up"

These everests where actually flown in by the owner in1986 from germany buy air!!!..now thats keen!! My friend has a pair aswell that where perchased at a jands auction in the early 90's. As for the bass it is a little soft, i have two pairs off 4435's and the bottom end in them is amazing.
I do agree with you on that they do make a statement, i personally think they are the nicest looking jbl's you can buy, and the sound stage is HUGE!!!. The total perchase price was $10k with a jbl b 460 sub and x over. I thougnt that was fair pricing for these wonderful speakers and the owner was offered by a high end audio dealer here in sydney.......$750 dollars!!!!.........i'm not kidding!!!! i plan to have a good listening session this weekend.

Another Jaws paraphrase:

You're gonna need a bigger TV.

Great purchase on the DD55000s. You will enjoy them for a long time!

WOW, words can not describe how amazing those speakers are. Do you have apicture with the lower cover removed?:)

Ps. You are not married are you, I showed the picture to my wife and she could not even comment. I think she did not share the same feelings as me.

Too bad Joe, everybody "knows" that you have to use tubes with horns.

congratulations, we are happy for you.. i too, have a set. i was trying to purchase the B-460 only..... i pair mine with a B-380. i have tried mine w/ tubes and ss gear. they sound great either way. currently, i have them paired to an ALEPH 3 and the 380 driven by an ALTEC 1570-B tube mono block amp. i use a threshold x-over. keep us posted with your impressions. room treatment will help as well...

Well I just love the look of that Everest.. they make my S3100 look like a pea shooter :( I do wonder though, how will they sound in such a small room ? I am quite often surprised to see the smallish rooms that a lot of posts here show their JBL's in. My own experience with the 3100 in a 18' x 12' room was that they had rather too much mid- bass output and I had to really play around with placement - away from walls - and a low powered amp to make it work. That or equalization. I now have my 3100's in a much larger room - 600sq.feet and not rectangular. They sound much better in the larger room.

If you don't mind me asking, how large is your room?

Have you had any acoustic issues with the Everest in your room ? Just wondering, as I have had the notion of a pair of the Everest myself but thought they might be too big for my room !

I would love to build a pair of those . They are one of the better looking speakers JBL has made .
That horn is very rare though. Dump the k145 and put in a 2234 or ME 150 . Be on the horn and keep the tweet or up grade it . Mind you , no point with Be though .

The horn is beautiful ....

I use the same horns and tweeter in a HT set up precisely for the directivity in a smaller room. My 2344A/2426H combo suffered from too much reflection on the side walls.
The Everest horns have an incredible soundstage when used with a 2344A in the center channel. It doesn't matter where you are seated, there is good localization of the dialog.
