New to the forum, but I think I stumbled onto the right place.

I have an old pair of 4401 monitors that need to be refoamed and possibly reconed. Is there anyone you guys would recommend to do the work? How much should I expect to pay? Any other gotchas I need to be aware of?

If it were any other type of speaker, I might try to do the work myself, but there's no way I'm taking that chance on these.

Thanks,
Jeff

There's this:

http://www.jblproservice.com/service/texas.html

Making sure that the shop glues the surround to the same side as stock,
if just a re-surround is acceptable, and does recommendable work ...
which is part of what you're asking :o:

Personal recommendation: send a PM to Edgewound here on the forum.
(based on the quality of work I've had done in his shop) Others here have
their personal/local favorites. Worth supporting folks that do the job right.

I'm absolutely looking for the forum's recommendations, and I appreciate yours. I'm certainly looking for the job to be done right, not cheap... although both wouldn't hurt my feelings.

A DIY re-surround is cheap and not that difficult. Use the search here for a great tutorial and part sources. The way I look at it, if you do a re-surround and don't like the results, you're only out maybe $20 and some time and you've done no damage that can't be repaired by a re-cone (which we all know is the preferred method).

Welcome and good-luck from an avowed re-surrounder!

Greetings,

Welcome to LH! I heartily second Grumpy's recommendation of our own Edgewound! He takes great pride in his work, and it shows in the finished item!! I trust him, completely, and would not hesitate to send him my JBL work, no matter what it happens to be. The end results speak for themselves, and that's what really matters when it comes to our beloved JBL's!! Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

Thanks, Doc. I PMed Edgewound. I haven't heard these babies for years. Can't wait to put them back into service.
