2234H re-coned

This caught my eye today. A 2234H re-coned to a 2225. Isn't the 2234 pretty rare? I believe it was used in the 4435 and maybe others? Wouldn't this woofer be more valuable if it was re-coned to a 2235?

This caught my eye today. A 2234H re-coned to a 2225. Isn't the 2234 pretty rare? I believe it was used in the 4435 and maybe others? Wouldn't this woofer be more valuable if it was re-coned to a 2235?

When I brought my 4341s home a couple years ago, I found the 15s were 2234s - so I swapped in a pair of 2235s. But to be honest, I tried the 2234s in my L200 3-ways and they sounded very nice - they're in there still!

Would the 2234 be considered as a tamed down 2235? I think two 2235's in the same cabinet would be a bit much but certainly a thumpin' cabinet!

...'just' a 2235H without the mass ring. a few dB more efficient in mid-band.
two of them crossed over properly in a 2x box => 4435. Nice articulate bass.
two 2235H in a box? 4355... banging bass.

I don't think "tamed-down" is quite the right term - honestly, the "L200 3-ways" I have currently in my living room are my favorites - fast bass, clean sweet vocals on the 2420-2397 horns, and the 2405 slot for a bit of sizzle on top. In their previous quasi 4333 form (with the 2307 horns), they played very nicely with the 2235s I had their, but the 2234s brought the bass out just a bit more and just make everything sound great.

Dkalsi was over for a bit on Sunday and he brought some fantastic spanish-guitar music to sample, and it was just fantastic! I gave him a taste of Ottmar Leibert, David Sylvian (Orpheus), and the Fourplay CD - just a fun listening session!

I'd guess it depends on the room. The 4 ways with the 2235s are better in the "TV room" with the concrete floor, the 3 ways with 2234 better on the wood floored room with cathedral ceiling.

Do you still have a 2123 pair somewhere than you could use to try a 4 way modification again on those L200?
The 10" could be interesting because it would better match the directivity of the 2397 than the 15".
At 800Hz the 15" already start to beam maybe at something like 100deg, whereas the 2397 is at 140deg.
The 2123 would be better crossed at 1.2khz, right in the 140deg spot.

I am currently running 2397 with 2435 on top of my 4412 for tests (by ears for now) and really like them! I use 2406s above them.
I actively cross the 2397 around 800Hz to match the 128H crossover in the 4412 (turning the mid and high lpad all the way down) and the sound is great so far!
I made some comparisons with the H9800 clone and I found the 2397 needed far less eq (the H9800 needs the typicall 6db/oct eq in the high, plus some notchs in the mids).
(caution: I currently do not have my measurement gears so this experiment was only done by ear).
One thing I didn't compare is the imaging, as I had to run the comparision in mono (I only have one pair of 2435).

Anyway, sorry for the OT, just wanted to say I like these 2397 very much :D

Those speakers have the Giskard design 3133 equivalent circuit in them - so if its like the 4333A specs, its an 800Hz crossover
I checked the JBL 2397 brochure and it says don't cross below 800Hz ...
I had been using the 2420/2307/2308 combo in that cabinet, but I got a pair of 2312 long horns to install,
built the bump out boxes that you screw on the back to allow the extra length, but I didn't get to drilling/cutting
a hole in the back of the cabinets to do so. Based on the way they sound now, I doubt I'll cut up the boxes to try it.

As part of a 4-way ... I have seen pictures of the L200 based 4-way that Norealtalent had for a while -
moved the baffleboard to the front of the cabinet and such. The idea intrigued me - before I bought a pair of 4341 4ways.

I no longer have any 2123s - but when I did, I had these cabinets as part of a DIY 4 way for a while,
before I got my 4341s ... using the 2420/ 2307/2308 midrange combo. At some point I should try the 2420/2397 combo
on my 4341s - but I'd have to move my biamp rack off the left speaker, and move the Citation 22 used for subwoofer
off the right speaker ... and open the monitor cabinets to access the midrange connections of the 3141 crossovers ...
