The site mentions that it is the descendant of the 4425/4428 with "new" technology down trickled from the K2 S5800 and DD66000.

Retails for approx USD 5,200/pair

Below is the 4428 for comparison

I really like the look of it. Could be a great system for smaller rooms.

... well, only if the town is in Japan, right?
Like the 4428, I gather there are no US sales planned ...
We're on our own to travel to Japan, buy a pair there,
and ship them home to the US ...

The compound horn and drivers look interesting ...

At least they are only 35 kilos a piece for shipping.

Basically a bookshelf version of the S4600. :)

Woofers continue to look more and more like the automotive offerings all the time. Would not suprise me to one day find the same components are used in both.

The horn and compression drivers are from the S4600.

it is a really nice set of drivers and an up grade in the horn

there has been good comments on the 4600
this 4429 should do fine in a smaller package
complement it with a pair of subs (b460) hb5000 etc and you have a very good system

JBL Consumer has been split in half. The high dollar items are now with Crown and the low dollar items are now with WiPro (formerly known as Harman Consumer Group - JBL, Harman/Kardon, Infinity). All the people in Woodbury (JBL Consumer) are gone, their jobs outsourced to India.

its the same the final consumer will not know who did what

When's the last time anyone here paid $5k for any JBL pair, new or otherwise? :p

If anyone really wants a pair, send me a cashier's check for $10k. I'll go over to Northridge, secure a pair for you, ship them to you, and refund the difference minus expenses.

When's the last time anyone here paid $5k for anything, new or otherwise? :p I recall someone started a thread about a large HT Synthesis installation, though it could have all been a scam! ;)

Since you said "anything", I can show you several installment checks, each in excess of that figure, for one semester's college tuition and fees for just one of my three daughters. Restricted to just hi-fi systems, I have my own thread that qualifies. within a slight rounding error. :rotfl:

Oh, I get it: rhetorical!

OK, I edited it. See above. :) Now my S-A comment is more limited, yet still rhetorical.

It's true, I paid more than $5k, but I got a lot more than two speakers. :bouncy:

I grew up with a JBL paragon and when I was old enough to buy my own, a pair of L112s. What has happened with JBL consumer line? Seems all the good stuff is over at the pro side, sans the DD66000 and K2s, which are out of my reach in terms of price. Is Harman driving them into the ground? :(

Jim, welcome.

In addition to the K2 and Everest, the consumer side has the superb Array Series. A bit down the line is the Studio L Series and then the ES Series. In addition the very fine Performance Series is still in the supply chain despite being discontinued.

Harman hasn't so much been driving them into the ground as not marketing and distributing worth a darn. I believe that today's consumer JBL offerings are among the best ever offered and among the most poorly marketed.

I believe that today's consumer JBL offerings are among the best ever offered and among the most poorly marketed.OR they ( Harman ) are doing well with the Revel brand which does posses Harman engineering. and does have a very dynamic sound sometimes likened to when JBL reigned supreme everywhere, with a decidedly JBLish Low End and it is just easier to keep that going than resurrect what , well you know.

Just thinking outloud, with no malace of forehthought, though.

In addition to the K2 and Everest, the consumer side has the superb Array Series. A bit down the line is the Studio L Series and then the ES Series. In addition the very fine Performance Series is still in the supply chain despite being discontinued. The current roster available from North American JBL Synthesis dealers are:

Everest II $30K ea.
K2-S9900 $22K ea.
K2-S1000 $11K ea.

Array Series including the SAM Series $3,200-$5,750 ea.

LS Series (Moderately priced horn based Klipsch killers) $699-$1,499 ea.

Performance Series $1,700 ea. (PT800, PC600) $1,800 (PS1400) discontinued and possibly discounted.

In addition to these speakers there are several subs and a variety of in wall and on wall surrounds. All prices listed are current 2010 list prices... kinds weird typing 2010!

Northridge until the end of June.

Greg is pretty proud of them. They use the same horn and compression drivers as his floor-standing S4600 design, along with the 1200FE-8 instead of the LE14H-4.

Very nice sounding system. A set of 5 with subs would be killer.

I saw several on my little tour of Northridge with my son. They were smaller than I expected (but not small), which was a pleasant surprise. They look to be very flexible in terms of where they would fit in a home environment.

Do you mean that they will move production after that?

Mr. Widget

Yes... In the management's infinite wisdom, they will be dismantling the factory that has produced state of the art drivers for decades and move production to Mexico.

Mercedez-Benz did the same, and it's still top gear... Don't worry !!! The low of business : Mexicans need less cash than americans, I am afraid.
Concerning the 4429, the only way is to find an asian dealer who accept stranger payments. My brother did it for a brand new pair of 4428 two years ago ; he found it in Japan.

The low of business : Mexicans need less cash than americans, I am afraid. We have run this subject into the ground, but while I agree that once a well trained and managed workforce is set up in a new factory in Mexico, JBL will be back in business, real people will lose their jobs and quality and productivity will suffer in the short term... and perhaps not so short term.

With the manufacturing move to Mexico in June JBL quite simply ceases to be JBL. The whole thing is ludicrous. I certainly have zero interest in their future. They've become just another loser corporation as far as I'm concerned.

If any of my remaining JBL systems require service after June 2010 I'll part them out or toss them in the landfill. The legacy is dead.

Mexicans have been doing this at Northridge for many many years

So please keep the nationality off the equation . I hope Harman has the ability to do this type of movement . it would be the same if thy where moving from California to Florida

I understand your frustration of this type of decision and shurely sad for the people how have spent a life in a JBL

the question is not the nationality but the business practice and its repercussion if not well attended

Mexicans have been doing this at Northridge for many many years

So please keep the nationality off the equation. While there are those in the USA who don't treat our neighbors to the south with any respect, I haven't seen posts on this forum that have been along those lines.

While I find Harman's decision to move the factory deplorable, it certainly has nothing to do with race and not even all that much about nationalism. I think it is great that Mexico has been building "German" cars for the Americas... I own one. I further hope that Mexico's manufacturing capabilities increase... what's good for Mexico is good for the USA, more over I am happy for China that their recent successes have helped many out of poverty over there, but what I find disgusting is taking away people's jobs and shutting down perfectly good factories in the hopes of short term reward.

Infinity as well....I must admit that while I admired Infinity, I never paid all that much attention to them. It seems to me that under Harman's stewardship, Infinity has become another Oldsmobile... a brand with no identity or focus or real reason to exist.

the question is not the nationality but the business practice and its repercussion if not well attendedI highly doubt that anyone here really cares whether mexicans chinese japanese litihuanian german sengalese ethiopian people or whatever their race may be is building these speakers as long as there still being built in america. The problem lies in taking an american company and moving a part of it to another country it doesnt matter what country it is either. The jobs, carreers lost and pride in an american made product will be gone the moment they move it somewhere else. I know for a fact that I will never buy a new JBL product again because of this.

i think you need geography lessons you live in country named United States of America

America is a continent divided in to three sections North Central and South

Mexico is part of the north section of the continent just as is Canada.

OK OK OK you are referring to your county :)

And yes i hate when companies in Mexico fire people to manufacture things in other countries so i do understand
but that does not mean by default less quality

thought this monitor (http://www.harman-japan.co.jp/product/jblhome/4319.html) with an inverted metal dome mid-range might be the first of it's kind??

and by the way, for those without a translator, I highly recommend the google crome browser which does automatic page translation. I surfed this JBL Japan site for years with netscape only being able to see the prices in yen, and driver model numbers, but now I can at least somewhat read the page.....

I know for a fact that I will never buy a new JBL product again because of this.Yep. It'd be a cold day in hell before I ever supported that company again. Their management are bad citizens. It's really too bad that they're allowed to continue to use the name. But they bought it and they can ruin it however they see fit I guess. Pricks...

My son and I auditioned the 4429 and 4305H at the same store (a large box store, like BB). The 4429 was very good indeed. If I'd had the $5K, I would have bought them for my son's wedding present.

We had also auditioned the Everest II at an install dealer. Now, that was a disgrace, the DD66000 shoved into an over stuffed room and only 5 ft between the pair.
