Currently I have a pair of L80 speakers of which one of the tweeters is damaged. The L80 is one of the european L-series that have the 050ti tweeters.
The 050ti tweeter is found in many european JBL speakers (1000ti, 2000ti, 3000ti, 5000ti, L20, L40, L60, L80 L90, L100 and L-Center).
I decided to take the 050ti tweeter from my L-Center, so at least I could run in stereo mode until I had found a replacement for my faulty 050ti in the L80.
But to my surprise, when I opened my l-Center, the tweeter looked different from the tweeter in the L-80.
First of all it has a metal cap over the magnet. When I removed the cap, I discovered an extra 'magnet' (or just a metal piece?) on the back of the magnet.
The tweeter from the L-center is labeled: 050ti p/n 971700 77K-JBH
The tweeter from the L-80 is labeled: 050ti p/n 971700 18U-JBH
Does any one know if the extra 'magnet' has any audible function? Can I remove it without harming the tweeter?
Help is appreciated.
