With this unusually cool summer, I figure maybe we can get one more social event in this summer - and I suspect its my turn to host one of this things!
I'm in Fairfax city (VA) - and a couple of the usual suspects have been here already!

So - lets start talking about it now, see what we can work out!

How about a tentative date of Sat. Sept 12th -
thats a week AFTER the Labor Day weekend ... its 7 weeks off - not too soon I hope!

The place is kind of small and well packed, but maybe I can offload some furniture ahead of time!

Sounds good to me!

Any particular theme in mind as the hostess? ;)

Not yet ... I'm still trying to clear the aquarium from the TV room!

Lately I've been going through DVD-A and SACD surround sound music - anyone else have an interest in that media?

Thanks for offering but the date doesn't work for me as I'll be shuttling daughter #2 back to college. But don't plan around me. I have a pretty busy calendar coming up with only two Saturdays open in August and two in September, and I will probably use one of those to visit my Mom.

Emma just reminded me of a previous appointment in August ... D'oh!

So, we'll need to find another date for such an event - maybe early September?
How about a tentative date of Sat. Sept 12th - its a ways off - we can adjust as necessary!

How about a tentative date of Sat. Sept 12th - its a ways off - we can adjust as necessary!I'm doing sound for a local group that weekend on Friday and Saturday at two different locations. Big system. Lot's of setup involved. Good group (http://www.indecision.com/) though so fun to listen to, and I get to play monitor engineer.

Sorry.

...I get to play monitor engineer.Take some pics...!! :)

Here's a little rig I built for local shows where we bring-in our own monitors. APB M1016 - provides 8 stereo IEM, or any combination of mono / stereo. That's an Ashly Protea 4.24G beneath the console - we can insert it on 4 mixes if using wedges.

Rear panel has the inputs, a splitter (w/ Pin1 drop), Inserts, Line in and all the outputs. I keep it wired-up with a stage box snake (50'), the splitter fan-to-fan ('35') and the output loom (10') all stuffed into that little dog house.

At approx 200 lbs "wet" I can toss it in the Z71 and get on down the road.

Sweeeet...

Passive splitters, or some kind of buffered no-loss distribution? I'd often wondered about doing a passive split for small club gigs.

Nice little kit.

You can pick it up at the listening party Heather said would be soon...
...

Well? The last time I offered some likely dates no one responded ...
so I figured they were just busy or all tuckered out ...

So what works for y'all?
I'll offer up a pair of possible dates ...
How about Oct 31st (Halloween), or Nov 14 ??:applaud:

No lack of interest here. Halloween is still a national holiday here at our house but Nov.14 could work. It's right in the UVA a cappella season just before their break so I'll have to double-check the schedule. We did sound for two shows last night—one a two-hundred-member choir with four-piece band and we did a 16-track recording for them—and have two more tonight.

I do know I'm hopefully working with the lighting engineer for the Derek Trucks Band show at UVA on Nov. 10. In Old Cabell Hall of all places; much better suited for an un-plugged performance than what I expect we'll get. :)

It's tough for me to plan ahead for a day trip these days, I have to keep schedules open as possible for side work. Plan what you can & I'll have to make the call last-minute, unfortunately.

Okay, Opimax didn't complain, so lets shoot for Nov 14th.
He's got the 2nd shortest drive of all anyway, (Steve V. is almost next door)

Was out doing yard work and such today - too many dog-gone leaves!

Doors open at 10AM - after breakfast but we'll have coffee and such if you want to bring bagels, we'll have a tub of whipped Philly for morning nibbles.

Around 3 or so we figured on firing up the grill for burgers'n'dogs and such - folks can bring a side or desert for that ...

Figure its all pretty fluid - lot of folks have dropped maybes but not sure who is coming from the North end ... or if the southern crowd is coming -

I've sent emails out to most of the local folks I could remember - anyone I left - just PM me!

Of course, Wilfredo is quite welcome - as is Dhar, and Steve, if they can find the time ...

I'm currently sitting on 2 pairs of Smith horns (walnut and JBL grey) plus short horns and long horns and the 2420s to rotate around.
If anyone want to bring a 2441 or 2 we could do an A/B with the upstairs pair of L200-plus speakers.

Hi, Heather,

This sounds like it will be yet another fine JBL get together! If there was even a remote chance of making it, Sweet Bride and I would be there in a heartbeat!! Darn it, too many miles, and not enough time or money, right now. Have fun, and I'll eagerly await pics and after-action reports!! :applaud::applaud: Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

Okay - original plan was to start at 10Am to give one of the weekend workers a chance to have some time before he had to run for work, but - he can't make it, so there's no reason to start that early - everybody else seems geared for afternoon hours ... that's cool too!
(we can forget the bagels and mornin' fare ...)

So - new event time is 2-8 PM or so ... so far, it sounds like a small crowd of half dozen or so - and this is a small house, so that works fine (grin) ...

You want to bring chips or a salad or desert or some such? That would be great.

We'll provide meat and bread/buns - around 4 or so we can fire up the grill and sizzle some meat or steak or whatever.

We raked the yard over the weekend, but this rain has brought another load to the ground - we'll just deal with that as it is!

If I don't know you're coming, please give me a heads up so we can have enough food for all. If you need directions/specifics just send me a PM

Hope to see you all here (hope it doesn't rain!) ...

Wow, its like you are RIGHT HERE - but actually, you just left!

Yep, the event has just ended - due to flu bugs and funky weather
it was a smaller turnout than expected -
none of the long distance travelers from points north, west or south ...

Don was here earlier and ran off with the grey 2397 horns (thanks Don!)
- Steve, Mark and Wilfredo came later and stayed for music and food -

Good music and good conversation!
Lets do it again before too much time passes!

Hi Heather,

thanks so much for hosting the East Coast LHS Social. I have all the volkswoofer parts I mentioned, just let me know when it would be a good time and I'll be happy to drop the off.

I guess I am the next one to host an event, so I'll start planning and send out some possible dates after the thanksgiving holiday :)

take care, wilfredo

You folks have a great group that seems pretty capable of getting together on a reasonable basis. :bouncy:

I've never been able to get more than three LH guys to my place at once, and that was part of a larger group, the LA Home Theater Group. Eventually, I guess many of them will stop by in ones or twos, but it sure would be nice to have some Lansing fans as a group sometime.

Ah well, have a great time and consider me slightly green. :D

Otherwise I'd happily bring along this thing I just won in a sales promotion for h/k auto sound systems. It arrived today. I believe it may have been originally sold as a JBL product before they turned it into an h/k toy.

We just chased the last of them away ...
Sadly, Mark and Sharon got away before Emma reminded me to take pictures (D'ohh!)
But Emma did take this of 4 of us 'round 5PM ...
Emma cooked up 2 kinds of Chili, Steve Volmer brought 2 kinds of delicious beer, and cornbread, & Wilfredo brought the most amazing Flan!

I did get the L200 -Plus 3way speakers rolled out and in place -
Like I said in another thread here - I forgot just how nice they sounded!

The upstairs room was pretty packed with the Magneplanars at the far back edges -
The JBL L200-Plus speakers were more towards the center, and neatly in front of them,
Dahlquist DQ-10s (and their crossover & sub off to the far right).
I'd recapped the Dahlquists - so they sound a lot better than when I first heard them last summer.

Basically we did a lot of A/B comparisons between the DQ-10s w/sub and the L200plus 3ways ...
which I think won every time! Guess I'll be putting the DQs up for sale in a few weeks!

We did hook the maggies up briefly at the end -
tho I did leave the DQ crossover and Subwoofer in place to help them ...
I played Sinatra's - One for My baby - amazing song & recording ...
its from 1958 and Frank is right in the room with you!

I still don't really like the maggies - tho Emma loves them ...
hopefully someday she'll let me sell them!

Anyway, the upstairs sound offenders ...

I've posted the downstairs speakers and amps system before ...but just as a refresher ...

And a picture of 4 of us in the downstairs surround sound room!

Yeah, we saw them a couple weeks back at the Meadow festival outside Richmond ...
but that shirt is from a couple years back - from an older version of the band.

Def fun folks!
