Hi All,

does anybody know, how I can see that it is a 2440 or a 2441 ?
( there are no foilcals and no diaphragmas)

Thanks in advance

To my knowledge there is absolutely no difference between them. I realize the catalog has different specs for them and I can't explain that, but when the 2441 came out it was described as the same driver with a new diaphragm, and that the "old" 2440 or 375 drivers could be updated by replacing the diaphragms.

The only difference that was ever relayed to me, and I have never had confirmation of it, was that the gap was widened to accommodate higher power handling. The flux density for the 2441 was lowered in the specs which is an indication that this may be true. On the other hand, others have told me that the flux desnsity change was due to a more truthful measurement with no real change in design.

The motors of both the 2440 and 2441 are visually identical. It is the diaphragm thats different, however, I have two 2440 that came out of West Point Academy, with diaphragms dated mar 17 `72 and upon installing 2441 diaphragms noticed a slight difference in gap width compared to my 1979 2441,s!

But, you can install 41 phragms in these motors and they sound great! JBL says if you use a 41 phragm in a 40 motor its a 41 so I say its a 41 too! And it does sound great.

Thanks Widget, Don and Scott,

I thought like this......visual no difference.
In my own thread, some months ago, I stated additionaly that the 2441 got a ring of pure silver round the pole piece.....in the data sheets of the 2440 is no word about such a silver ring......btw.....you can't see this silver ring from outside.

I will follow your comments and measure the gap, when the drivers are here from OZ-land (by the kindly help of member "jtgyn")

Thanks again
