OK, so I have to burn a few vacation days before they are taken away so my wife and I traveled a few hours from NY to AC for a short golf vacation.

We walked into a seafood resturant and sat at the bar. They were playing recorded music.

I recognized the sound immediately as comming from JBL speakers. ...deep full bass, great midrange and extended highs with good dynamic range. Looking around, I saw two speakers mounted on opposing walls.

They were black boxes about 32 inches wide and 14 inches high and approximately 8 inches deep. Anyway, upon closer inspection, the boxes had JBL logos and I was gratified knowing I recognized the classic sound immediately. I think they were professional series - very small - but I'm not sure of the model or drivers.

....No; they were not playing ANYTHING from Michael Jackson.

And you forgot to take some pictures.:banghead::D

From the dimensions we can rule out the possibility of JBL control 10 or 12SR as that would be common speaker in restaurant including control 1 and 5.

You know idea what model they were?

What was the name of the sea food restaurant maybe there are some pictures on Google image that may have picture or maybe a technical specification of some sort?

...Atlantic City Bar and Grill at the corner of South Carolina Street and Pacific Avenue.

The units have metal grate type grills and the side of the cabs are slightly curved.... sort of looks like smallish stage monitors.

I think it would be an insult to a lot of great speaker systems to insinuate that only JBL have these qualities.
To me what sets JBL apart and is a hall mark of that signature sound is the critical balance between components-- "forward voicing."

Well I typed in this keyword (Atlantic City Bar and Grill JBL speakers) and got, sod all. I think you need to be a bit, spot on about the sea food restaurant.

Sod all!

Unless someone else can place that description because I’m clueless as to what model was being used in this sea food bar? Was it a recently new model or an old model?

Using JBL as a keyword is what's causing the lack of search results. Honestly, an ordinary restaurant doesn't typically publish information on what speakers they use to outfit the establishment. Most people go for the food ;)

If I want a meal I’ll stay at home eat while listening to JBL.:D
If I go to restaurant that has JBL I’m going to be too busy taking pictures with the camera.

I noticed a few London Planet Hollywood and a café next to the Curzon cinema that also used the control 1 same as planet Hollywood.

Also there was a few bars in Bournemouth one in Old Christchurch road that used JBL control 5 and another bar in Holdenhusrt road that had control 5. Both the bars are now gone.

At the time I didn’t have a digital camera so sorry no pictures.

Lord help me. I have to listen to JBLs every time I take my kids to Busch Gardens. They sound like crap but then PA system in an amusement park is a rough gig. I'd be embarrassed to point them out as JBLs except that they have the "Pro" labels all over them and most people pay no attention to that stuff or how it sounds anyway. ;)

If Busch Entertainment has their sound configured in the same way throughout their numerous theme parks, then I'd have to agree with you there. Sea World (another Busch park) has the worst public address I've ever heard for a theme park. Very tinny and harsh, even for background music. Cringed the whole time I was there.

They had 5 or 6 TVs playing baseball and dozens of patrons talking while the music was playing. Frankly, the sound was just OK - but I did recognize the speaker manufacturor immediately.

Other than Bose 901s, can you name another model or brand of speakers that you would be able to identify in a blind test?

The bass was deep, but not quite deep enough. Midrange was great, but again - not that great. The highs were definitely extended - but y'know, they could have been more extended. Yeah, the sound was just OK.

Dude, it's a freaking restaurant, not a concert hall. You were expecting...?:dont-know

Why would I be able to identify Bose products in a blind test? :dont-know

The accustics in the bar resturant were poor; the system was mounted near the ceiling, the drivers were facing each other, the overhead bar cabinets were in the way, and people were talking too loud over the many TV baseball games.

Anyway, I could recognize Bose 901s since they have a distintive coloration that is immediately apperent to me.
