I have just bought a beautiful pair of JBL 4343B in nice condiztion.
All original components.
I saw in thsi website that differences from 4343 and 4343A are only in the mid-bass and sub componets, that are 2121A and 2131A instead of the H version.
I have just bought a pair of JBL LE111A 8ohm and place them instead of the original 2121H. And,
WOW
they sound really better!
More transparency and details.
I'd like to buy a pair of the original 2121A but it seems very difficult to find a pair of them.
What do you think are better:
LE10A LE111A or 2121A ?

My best regards

Modestino

have a set of 10 inchers reconed into 2122 - thats the recommended replacement for the 2121s anyway
(I had a blown pair of 2123 reconed into 2122s for my 4341s)

Subwoof posted a series of pictures of the related 10 inchers at one point ...

FWIW: me, too! My 4345 clones use brand-new 2223H baskets with new JBL 2122H cone kits installed. Same basket as 2122H drivers, or so I've been told.

The real informative posting of various 10 inch drivers is the first one in the thread I link a few posts back -
Direct link to it here

Anyway, here's a direct quote from Subwoof from another thread:

apologies to aerosmith..:o)

The LE10A basket will take the 2121 kit but it is a *recommended* upgrade to install the 2122 or 2123 kits.

The LE10A is not a good substitute for the 2121 or 2122 in the big 4 ways for a few reasons.

This has been discussed on this site many times..but $100 for a pair of mint baskets is a good buy.

Welcome to LH Modestino

for some real insight or at least usable information regarding your question you may want to wait until owners of said transducer, or other more specs/data-savvy people chime in here.

Although I've searched this site up & down I could not find the LE111A's sensivity, measured in dB at 1W / 1m but I can post T/S parameters later. Once you're a bit more used to the sound of well amplified 4343's, you will probably notice also with this driver that they aren't properly balanced anymore.

My personal experience is, with the original 3143 crossovers the 2121 is the best sounding driver in this box. Hope this helps.

Yeah. Pull up a comfortable chair and someone will deign to drop by eventually.

Please excuse my lame, uninformed attempt at replying to your question. I'll take my beating now.

Hello Modestino

What you have are two very different drivers. The Le111 is a woofer the 2121 a mid bass driver. To compare them you can look at the T/S table in the reference section of the Library. At a first glance the FS are different as well as the moving mass and sensitivity. The Le111 looks like a 2122 because the aguaplas is on the back side of the cone. Looking at the two the Le111 has twice the moving mass and a significant drop in sensitivity.

All of the JBL networks are tailored to work with specific driver sets. That said you cannot just substitute drivers as the response will not be predictable unless you have a good set of measurements and a good software package such as LEAP to model them in.

There are two schools of thought. One is to just try it and see if you like it. The other is to do it the way JBL does. Me I prefer to do it the way JBL does for obvious reasons. As a matter of fact if this thread was in the Technical Forum there would be no last sentence to this post.

They are your speakers so do what you want.

Rob:)
