Had a friend give me a couple of 4508 cabinets. Right now I have two 15" magnavox paper surround console woofers in one box, and nothing in the other. I also have available for use a pair of Altec 515's with the paper surrounds, and a pair of Altec 515 16G HP woofers, capable of 200 watts each....

I actually haven't heard the HP's yet. They're still in the 816VI cabinets, and I would want to listen to them at least once in their untouched state.

However a pair in series at 8 ohms could potentially make for a killer single subwoofer too...:bouncy:

Thoughts? Try the other 515's? They're 20 ohm....Time for an active crossover?

515 16ghp
There is not a lot of travel in the suspension of those drivers, for real bass performance you will want a large horn, they are an excellent driver properly applied, but might not be the right thing in that box. YMMV Listen first then Disassemble.......

515s are great drivers when coupled with HF compression drivers such as the 802 loaded in a secular horn in full range systems.

...they are not particularly well designed for a sub woofer application in my view, however.
