When I do a search for e.g. the 4348 in our website I'm guided to some pages that describe pictures of these speakers but I can only see pics from JBL officials.

See
http://www.audioheritage.org/html/perspectives/lht-2003/new-friends.htm
or
http://www.audioheritage.org/html/perspectives/lht-2003/factory.htm
for example

What is wrong?

Looks like the site is jacked up. Those links you posted are hosed Guido. That whole section is hosed.

Click on those links and see what comes up. Follow the links on that web page. They are all goofy.

Because this is a development section of the website that only I am supposed to have access to. Unfortunately, I forgot that the indexing system will log pages even if they are not linked to the main site. Otherwise, you would not and should not be able to view these pages.

The reason they are messed up has to do with how I go about developing pages for the site. First, I develop the navigation structure of parent pages, child pages etc. Next, I take a single example of a previous page to use as a template. This template has the colour, table layout, and format already defined. I next move copies of this template into the previously defined navigation structure. Then I work on changing the illustrations and replacing the text with new content.

In this case, the single page I used as a template was an old announcement of the release of the 4348 monitor. Over time, this text will be replaced as I finish each page. When the whole section is complete, it will be published to the site.

Thanks for clearification Don!

I want to encourage you to finish these sites. Especially about these harman japan products we know not much (or better said: nothing?)
Maybe you can collect more information or even specs of new drivers from your sources. If they are too confidential we can open it only for members.

BUT these products need to be treated in our website.

Thanks!

Just kept opening those Japanese sites.

This one is the most fun. Two guys setting up a pair of 4348's with a McIntosh amp.

Looks like the K2-S5800 horn with the 435AL and 045AL drivers.

What were they demonstrating in that photo with the phantom enclosure?

I've read that part of the buying choice in Japan regards the design, craft, finish and appearance of the drivers themselves as very important. I assume this display goes to that.

David

And, by the way, thanks for the lead on that horn. I'm going to check that out.

And I thought I was obsessive / compulsive ! Those billet standoffs are kind of cool, just haven't ever used a car jack to place my speakers before. :D

Absolutely. The JBL speaker reviews in Stereo Sound Japan always include detailed photos of the individual drivers, and in some cases, photos of the drivers dismantled down to their component parts. It very much appears that the Japanese veiw quality as being the sum of the parts. For this reason, JBL employs industrial designers to deal with the aesthetics of the drivers.

That being said, it looks like the 1500FE bass driver used in this speaker slipped through their grasp. IMHO, that is one of the butt ugliest drivers JBL has come up with. It looks like they took a 1500AL, guillotined the magnet structure, and then glued on a frisbee in its place.

That link was great. Just watching the set up of the 4348's was fun to watch. They really take things seriously there. I visited Japan 20 years ago. I spent 1 day in the Akihabira? district of Tokyo. That is where all the hifi stores are. I saw all the great speakers of the day and of the past. Paragons, 4345's, L300's, Tannoy's, Patricians. All in many different stores. All were about 6 floors and the good stuff was at the top.

I hope I get a chance to go again one day. Any JBL fan would find this a heck of lot more fun than a trip to Disney.

Glad you enjoyed it. Those guys did a good job making a visual narrative that crosses the language barrier.
