We went to see Chicago at Bethel Performaing Arts in Sunday. The hall has open sides and an open back with a smallish roof.
The sound was extremely good, particularly in comparision to the poor sound at the Izod Clapton show.
The system was 1/3 the size of Clapton's - only 24 flown cabs and 6 on the stage. I assume each cab had two 15" woofers and a large format compression driver and horn. These were driven by 30 Crowns sitting on the left side of the stage. In addition, 4 bass cabs each had 4 subs (16 subs)
What can you conclude from this?
1. Hall accustics are very important
2. Refer to #1 above.
