Hello

I wonder if anyone can provide information on these Westrex cinema amps.

There came together in one unit comprised of separate casings.

Is each one a stand-alone amplifier? Why would so many amps have been housed together in one unit?

Does anyone know what the unit without valves is? A cross over, or transformer?

More pictures in my second post...

Any information on these would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Looks like 3 power amps and a common power supply for them.

Power unit 2078-A has a 12 volt output for the heater circuits in the tubes (valves) and a 250 v circuit to run the main amps themselves.
I'm guessing its relatively high-power amps with that kind of supply ...

Interesting design! Do you have any schematics for the amps themselves?
Do you have all the tubes

Would make sense based on the set up described on this page under Magnetic Sound Equipment: http://www.davesden.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/tower-apx1.htm

Final Stage: 3 x Westrex type 2062 Amplifiers, providing Left, Center, and Right screen audio channels, rated @ 35watt RMS per channel.

Definitely a neat find!

Thank you very much for the link.

Are these power amps useful separately, or only together?

Unless keeping it stock for collector purposes, do not run with that selenium rectifier as due to its age and typical characteristics will probably go bad sooner than later.:banghead:

Sometimes they are rather unpleasant when they go, and while I have never experienced the event, I have read that they are toxic when that happens.:biting:

Now for the good news::bouncy:

WHAT A COOL FIND!!!!!

Unfortunately does not have US WE Xformers (the most important ingredient). Design leans heavily on Euro preference for pentodes (like Siemens/Klangfilm). But a very complete unit in good condition.
